Dammit, Joe, you can't just up and leave, without giving a reason! Come back!

I dont want to talk about it because I still dont know what the fuck is going on...but until I do, I'm not going on OUS... Some shit is going on and I dont know what or why... If it gets resolved, I'll be back...

what your missing, is the fact that it takes more time to wade through the bullshit posts. but, the problem is, most of the time, the bullshit posts piss off one person, and that starts a chain-reaction and soon everyone is pissed off. at that point, the topic has been completely abandoned, and all thats going on is a flame-fest.

It would seem to me, as with the 'open discussion' thread, that several people including me are having a real discussion with much interest involving ous regulars and n00bies, with people like joe cam, matt pollard, and metaknight constantly interrupting us to flame. No really, thats all they're doing. Flaming. Go check it out.

don't think i'm singling you out, cruton. i have been reading these posts every night, and have seen tons of bullshit from lots of people. hell, half of my own posts are nothing but complete bullshit.
hheh, actually, i'm surprised that a large number of the people here didn't come hunt me down after my first post on these boards. i rolled in here with a really strong position as a total noob.... er, sorry n00b (i dont really use, nor understand that "leetspeak" crap) and started *licking* people at random.
that instantaneously (sp?) pissed off half the posters here. but, i got around that through a lot of backpedalling, so i have done my part of shakng things up around here.
because of that, dont think i'm gonna come after you, or anyone else very harshly for what may be taken as "flaming". frankly, i got over a lot of that years ago, and for the most part, dont really care anymore.
i know this might prompt you to go looking for all of my posts, and calling me on this. go ahead, be my guest, i dont really mind. truthfully, id feel better if you did go and do that, than just saying "go choke on something", or any other comments like that.
now, to get back on track here (sorry, i tend to rant), the real bullshit posts i have a big problem with are those 120 point font posts. those just take up space, and seem like an infantile attempt to laugh at someone.
i cant remember everyone that made those, but i DO know that one of the people was fats9000. really, if someone is gonna make fun, or poke fun at someone, why use text that huge?
oh well, take what you want from this cruton. if you feel that im writing this whole novel, just to tell you to stfu, dont. im not, i dont like doing that. im just stating an opinion.
P.S. i hate Old Navy.

it's immature to think that an idea means nothing because it's text on a screen. don't whine about hypocrisy like you have elsewhere, either. your being here in the first place indicates that you're emotionally affected by some internet TEXT.

you obviously do, or you probably wouldn't be here! i advise you to let cruton do the talking, as you're a flat-out fucking idiot.
and cruton, it's not assuming motives so much as noting a pretty basic trend: if nothing inspired some reaction within you, you would not have stepped into these forums. why do i keep pointing that same thing out? because you're mired in denial and the fallacy that you have a compelling reason to stay here and terrorize everyone. you're just as emotionally chained to this cycle of bullshit as everyone you're patronizing.

Perhaps you're right. I won't deny the possibility. But instead of just saying it, go into more depth. Theres a few problems with the theory.
Firstly, If I'm so emotionally charged, why are my posts generally emotionless?
If I'm really hounding people out, flaming, and causing trouble, why are ous regulars agreeing with me?
And most importantly, the question you guys keep asking me, but never seem to have a real answer for; if I hate this community so much why am I here?
Mustin
08-27-2004, 02:23 AM
1.) I do give a shit. This is my board. But I choose what I'm going to let affect me and what won't. If someone hates the site, great. If they love it, great. But I'm not going to do anything differently than what I'm doing now.
2.) No one is going anywhere. You say you're going to go, but then you just come right back. If you're going to leave, leave. If you're going to stay, stay. If you're not sure, just don't say anything. But Joe and Bernie, I can't see you leaving something you love so much. So just sit down in your chair and pipe down.
3.) Just because someone is trying to reason with the cruton and the like doesn't mean they're rooting for them. People like Hillary and especially Kassi are dear friends of mine and support what I do - there is no reason to attack them. But they also support rationalizing and intelligent conversation. No one could cause such a fuss on a text message board if they weren't intelligent. And since the majority of you have your proverbial panties in a wad, the lesson here is that Life will always throw in a curve ball now and then. You learn how to deal, or you fall behind. If you let someone on this message board, let alone text on a message board get to you, you need to re-evaluate the situation. I'm not going to moderate anyone because your feelings got hurt. Mine didn't?
4.) Grow up a bit. You tell someone like Cruton to grow up, when you can't grow up yourself. Even though he's hiding behind anonymity and won't just say who he is and get it over with, you can take the upper hand by acting a little more grown up, stop the name calling, and deal with it. Life isn't a simple deal where you can just delete people who challenge you. If that was the case, then I'd delete a lot of people, and a lot of people would delete me. That's not the way it works. You ignore it and move on.
5.) I do appreciate everyone's love for OneUp Studios. Not everyone is going to like it, sure. But that's what is so great about this community - there's something for everyone. OCR has excellent game remixes that are judged by a quality control panel to filter out what is deemed unworthy of their publicity. There's no denying the massive impact OverClocked ReMix has had on what we all do and love to listen to. It wasn't the first of the nature, but it was definitely the first to get major attention. And for being a part of that, I am grateful. They have every right to filter out what goes up on their front page because more people visit that site every day than most of the other sites combined. And then there's VGMix where anyone has a shot to be heard. Lots of amazing work that you wouldn't hear on OCR is there, and lots of stuff that needs some serious improvement. But we can all help each other if we just put some effort and thought into it - it's how you get better. And places like KFSS Studios and OneUp Studios offer remixed albums that you can buy and hold in your hand. And that's great for many reasons. One is that you get a consitent album with quality control and some sort of theme, and two because there's money actually going back to the owner of the music and it shows the big gaming companies that fans want stuff like this so much, that they're willing to do it themselves to make it a reality. In turn, that will eventually lead to the big companies releasing their own arranged soundtracks. What's not to love?! A few individuals that bring you down? Bogged down waiting times? Slow bandwidth? Costly CDs? If you don't like one, go to another. And if you don't like any of them, then just shut up and make your own site! Everything that's started that you love came from an idea and someone just doing it. And at every point someone's told them it wouldn't work. But it didn't stop David Lloyd, it didn't stop Jake Kaufman, it didn't stop Mike Newman, it didn't stop Stephen Kennedy, and it didn't stop Mustin and Dale North and everyone else who has created something that you love and visit often. All of these people have given you something, and this is how you treat them? You squabble on message boards about how you hate it? You say that the owner "doesn't give two shits?" You say the CDs cost too much? You say the MIDIs aren't exactly like the game?
I feel sorry for you all who think that way.
Don't let someone ruin your experience. Don't give in to hate. Make friends, listen to music, and enjoy what is offered. And always remember that one bad apple doesn't ruin the bushel. For every person who really has a hatred for another "remix site," there are nearly a hundred who visit, check out the music, and listen to it without having to join the community. And they'll love it, share it with their friends, and it will be truly appreciated. You don't have to post a hundred messages about how you love the music, or how you want to take pictures of the owners feet, or that djpretzel should have his own holiday. Just appreciate the hard work put into this.
Think for yourselves, friends. It's an eye opening experience.
you can come across as cool and collected as you wish, but there is something urging you to post more and there was something that urged you to post to begin with. if that was something other than an emotion, and it stemmed from something other than internet text, then do explain.
i said myself that some of the things you've presented are valid points. however, given your track record--if you are indeed collaborator--it's impossible for someone who knows how you act towards anyone but your immediate posse to give you credit for anything but being an aimless nuisance with an axe to grind.
the reason we're asking you the question persistently is because you won't answer it. the basis of your initial attacks had to do with moderators that you disliked and mustin, and you have libeled oneup studios' goals, and productions. there don't seem to be many positive vibes coming from your general direction. if you mean to tell me that you have any feelings besides negativity towards the community and organization you're infesting, you're doing an awful job. you've come across loud and clear.
answer the fucking question yourself. you're skirting it repeatedly, and maybe this is because you've been called out on it and you don't feel like substantiating the claims about your forum terrorism.
your mindgames are what are boring. you accuse me of saying nothing, but you've been talking a lot and saying absolutely nothing this entire time.

Ya know, that's all noble and all, but I'm still scratching my head why you failed to ever mention the deals with piracy. Not to mention, how you completely missed the entire point of why Cruton and I were here.

Nooooooooooo!
Dangit, PleasureDude. I was TOTALLY enjoying reading that post until that very last sentence! (Emphasis mine, btw.) *good naturedly strangles you* It was a series of EXTREMELY good points...with an insult tagged on the end! *falls over*
I imagine if you ask directly about the piracy, you'll receive an answer. I've looked through the thread (I admit, there's a lot of it, and I did a lot of scanning), and even if Mustin read this entire thread, I believe that piracy assertion is in a different one (the "Open Discussion" thread?). I don't think he's read that one yet. Now that it's come up here, though, it would be a good point of discussion.

First off, I didn't know you were saying anything about piracy. I didn't read the thread because I didn't care to. I'm not interested in it. As for piracy, the fact of the matter is that I downloaded Finale and that's it as far as music goes (I have a few other things like PaintShop Pro 7). But I will buy all of the software I use or have used just as soon as I can afford it. There you go.
And secondly, the MIDI comment wasn't directed towards you. I was making a reference to people who complain about Mike Newman's site, VGMusic.com, and how the MIDI's aren't exactly like the game. The point being, at least something is offered for you to listen to and yet people complain about it. I choose to be ignorant to the points of this thread, because I really don't care.
So there you go.

Hi Mr Cruton. You already found this out, but I'm allergic to Bullshit too. :)
Just wanted to share another thing we had in common.
Call me naive, I don't care. As a female, it probably makes me cute, but growing up with Mustin, I've seen the quality of his music improve and expand. I don't consider myself a n00b musician or a n00b remix-listener although I certainly haven't been as open minded about listening to the stuff on OCR or VGmix in the past two years, so yeah, I'm entirely biased, talking out of my ass, when I say "yeah, well, I think this OUS stuff is far superior to the contemporaries".
That said, my argument is weak and limited. But, from my perspective, and I don't consider myself to have an untrained musical ear, I think Mustin's music production is top of the line. You know how in high school you could write the best essay in the class but the teacher gives you a b minus because she's grading the individual rather than the individual in comparision to the rest of the class? That's the same way I look at Mustin and his work.

And you're definately not alone in that sentiment.
Y'know, speaking with Kassi elsewhere, she made this comment (re: Britney Spears' "Toxic"): "It's not GOOD, but I like it."
That may be the best way to explain my love for a LOT of the VGM arrangements/mixes that I favor. Some of them aren't just the greatest music in the world. The songs might have flaws, they might not be the most technically correct songs, but I enjoy them. Just because I enjoy them doesn't mean I think the songs are perfect; I see the flaws. It's just that those things I enjoy about the songs outweigh those things I might not.
i just watched harry potter and the chamber of secrets. i found it to be an extremely well-done interpretation of rowling's novel.

It was a tad bit confusing, but I found it to be an alright movie. Then again, I didnt read the books.
Wait a minute, were off topic!
confusing? how so? did you see the first film, and did you read the books?
i'm more curious about cruton's opinion, though! they seem like they'd have a critical eye for cinema.

Well I didnt read the books...but I cant remember specfically what it was that confused me, it's been about year since I saw it. It wasnt anything major in the plot, but it was a few minor things I didnt get. I really should have read the books.

I thought C of S was quite well done, though I MUCH preferred the cinematic interpretation of P of A. I felt the director (Cuaron) of P of A stuck admirably close to the "feel" of P of A. Arguably, Columbus just didn't have as dark a feel to work with, but I also preferred Cuaron's view of magic. In C of S, even the smallest, most insignificant spells blew people against walls & shook the ground. In the books, and in the P of A movie, magic is integrated with everyday life and isn't always so dramatic, though it can be.
In short, I really like all the HP movies thus far, and I am a HUGE, HUGE fan of the novels. I think Rowling is VERY good at transporting you into "her" world for the duration of your read. Two thumbs up all around.

I find the books to be better than the movies, but that's LIKELY because I simply like reading better than watching movies. I'm biased.
But I think it's AWESOME when people decide to do both. Best way to make an informed decision.

It's sad to see such n00bness. If you change a word, then it would be a "word" correction, not a spelling correction. If things this little make you feel so much better, then it's obvious that you're an example of what Cruton was talking about. You just admitted you get emotional over a word change, meaning you are most obviously immature, and couldn't handle being in a public place without wetting yourself. Such attacks as these are no better than reading a poorly edited newspaper article. It's just sad. Cloud, everytime you have posted, you seem to be one year younger than before. Hmm.
I don't think I've been drunk enough to really be considered trashed, but the two instances I had a little more to drink than I probably should have resulted in my speaking with a British accent uncontrollably.
So maybe if we want Barret to talk with an accent, we should get him drink. But then it occurs to me that would make smashing him in the head with a brick worthless.

didn't you work on a few Secret of Mana remixes? :?
that's me. They just disappeared one day...
Actually, at the restaurant I worked at, a cook made my tip cup for me and he spelled my name "Kassi" on it, so in order for them to know where my tips went, I had to start spelling my name like that on the tickets. It got into the system there and I just decided to go along with them and change it so that no one would get confused. It just didn't seem important enough to correct at the time and I really don't care how people spell my name as long as it's recognizable.

Gendo, I'm guessing your real name is one that can really only be spelled one way (maybe there's a rare variant spelling, but you use the more common spelling), something that anyone with half a brain can figure out.
My name is Jarod. There's probably more than 20 different ways to spell that name, between J vs. G, one r or two, different vowel combinations, etc. When your name can be spelled so many different ways like that, you just don't care as much. The way I see it, as long as it's not spelled wrong on the things that count (i.e. any sort of official document, or anything that's published for all to see, stuff like that), it really doesn't matter.

Well, given that "Kassie" is a girl's name to begin with (at least, I have never met any guys named Kassie), and that Kassie is INDEED a girl, her name cannot then be "emasculated", as the definition thereof is "remove the masculinity of". I somehow doubt Kassi would MIND terribly if you removed the masculinity of her name! ^o^

Unlike you, I can back up my logic with FACTS. EVER HEARD OF FACTS? YEA, WATCH.
Btw, this is my last post ever.
According to http://www.statistics.gov.uk/, 193 out of 194 people named Kassie are female.
On the same website, you'll find that only 13% of the world has internet access, which makes this random kassie very likely to not have internet at all. Yea, I'm not ruling out the possibility that you're fabricating little white lies to keep your faith in the existance of one kassie alive and fresh. This is called denial.
www.statsoftinc.com states that for every person, there are 1.0001 forum accounts on average.
finally, http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/ proves that violent crime rates have declined since 1994, reaching the lowest level ever recorded in 2002.
So, I feel satisfied now that I've crushed your feeble attempt at attacking my theories. Clearly this is a case of whitebread denial. You may be fooling others, but I can see through you like an effloresce ployurethan. From now on I'll be watching what you say.

Hehe that's a good theory actually. However you are relying heavily on probability, thus my theory is Math is not entirely correct. How could something be right if still using it, it is impossible to understand everything of it. (ex. infinity) Until we can fix it to do so, I will not rely on math for anything (except for computer programming and adding to my checking account :D)

Your statement is invalid, try again. And for what you actually ment, I can comprehend that the world is made on this invalid math, thus we must use this math inorder for this world as we know it to be semicomprehendable. It gives us the feeling of knowledge thus we must have it, but in the near future, I will give undeniable proof that Math is 100% incorrect. But because the world as we know it is built on it, either that will be the last day of my life inorder to protect that fact or people will ignore it and still use the invalid math. And also I think it will be funny when the world knows the truth.

It wasn't, it was a false rendering of the Socratic method. Socrates, being Greek, wouldn't have employed Japanese poetic form.
The Socratic method of reasoning is usually illustrated as thus:
If X = Y and Y = Z, then X = Z.
For example,
All men are mortal.
Socrates is a man.
Therefore Socrates is mortal.

Er - I thought the Socratic Method wasn't a logical pattern as much as it was a method of diologue. The instructor (or whomever) asks questions and the student responds and the instructor continues to build on those responses in a way that further drives home the subject at hand. (The idea being that the student actually has to think about what they're learning.)
I believe what you described is a syllogism.

That's what Baro used to like to do in his philosophy threads...
To answer your question though, Socrates both asked questions of his students like that, but also invented the "If X = Y, and Y = Z, then X = Z" logic system.

The Socratic Method is not the only principle of philosophy in existence. Nor is it limited to philosophy. Teachers have used the principle for hundreds of years now.
While Socrates may have produced the first formal works demonstrating proper methods of reasoning (I'm not sure.) you cannot "invent" logic. People have been using it since the very beginning.

I missed the Math is wrong post somewhere. Explain.
I didn't really want to get so far into it, but since I'm here, here goes.
Well I was just saying that if Math is correct and perfect as we claim it to be, then everything would be easily explainable and nothing should be of question. Thus because infinite exists and we don't understand it, math is somehow flawed.
I'm guessing you've done David Hilburt's Hotel problem. If you did, then you should know a little more about infinite and maybe see why there is more of a chance that math is wrong.
Also for more knowledge, if you have proved the number 1 exists in some class or read up about it, then you would know that the number 1 only possible using 2 different theories that haven't been proven yet. Thus, when I prove one of those theories false, then math will be false. Very simple.
It you want to talk to me about it more, message me or something and I'll let you know what things I've came up with.

Haiku, I hate you,
You are too damn hard to do.
I should just write stories.
That's not my own, but I wish it was. :)

Now I'm wondering if "Dale" is one syllable or two...
Day-uhl?

One. I'm gonna say "Dale" is one syllable, short and sweet.

I don't know why, but the haiku I like usually has to do with death :( Maybe I'm morbid. Here are a few from my haiku journal (I have a journal for everything). Unfortunately I don't know who wrote most of them.
The piercing chill I feel
My dead wife's comb
In our bedroom
Under my heal - Taniguchi Buson (I think that's tanka and not haiku)
- - -
His grave
Covered with
My sky

Back Home
The bookmark in his bible
Does not move

Kassi, a Haiku is a three-line poem, with five syllables on the first line, seven on the second, and five on the third.
Like this:
LOLOL
ROFLMAO
LOLOL
(I saw that one over a year ago on a Haiku thread in OCR's UnMod forum.)
The poems you just posted are not Haiku.
What's a tanka?
Kassi

I was under the impression that Haiku was 2-3-2 or 5-7-5 or 3-5-3
as far as tanka, it's a japanese style similar to haiku.
(edit) Afterthought: Today I've learned 2 valuable lessons: don't drink coffee after 8 if you want to sleep and don't post when you're tired.

Technically, what we're writing are ALL freaking BAD haiku. A haiku is a poem following the 5-7-5 frame, and most often, it compares the feelings of the writer to nature. It's descended from the poetic style most often used by Murasaki Shikibu, who wrote the first novel, the Tale of Genji. A waka (her style) is 5-7-5-7-7. Here's what WOULD be an appropriate haiku, if she were here...

Hillary is right.
We all write bad Haiku, but
Good Haiku are hard.
Honestly, yeah. Haiku are supposed to be about nature, or sometimes about an introspective look at the self. But if we stick to formal Haiku, we don't get to have as much fun.

Haiku is not one sentence
Break it into three.

Stingray softly sleeps,
My probing will not wake him,
Sweet dreams, little one.
EDIT2:
I poke, poke his face,
And yet he still ignores me,
Poke, poke, poke, poke, pooooooke.

Apparently there is black milk too. I heard somebody on the drive thru order it when I was at work yesterday. I didnt even know we had black milk.
I really got to try some of that pitch black mountain dew, but they dont even have live wire in my town. What does it taste like?

Took me one DRINK. I didn't wanna let Bryan have a drink of it. It matches really well with chocolate, and SERIOUSLY. Drink it while eating pizza. It goes SO FREAKING WELL with cheese and tomato sauce.
