Sean's guitar playing on 'The Boy That Feared Time' blows me away everytime I listen to it. The solo lead at 1:27 is raw, primal, and everything I love about rock. Great stuff.
Dude, did the error on the first printing stick with you all this time? It's "The Boy Feared By Time", not The Boy That Feared Time.

uh I just used the track name off the first cd cause i DO NOT HAVE MY COPIES OF THE LATEST CD YET. I've heard every track, but the cds are still in the mail and on their way here. It was so nice of you to point out the error. NOT!

I am impressed. That's all I can say. I got it today, and I'm completely blown away by how much better it sounds then the last CD. It sounds so much better!
Holy shit.
Nice job, guys. I didn't think you could improve on what was already excellent.
Edit: STAR STEALING GIRL. HOLY SHIT. ONEUP MUSHROOMS. <3 That made my nipples really fuckin' hard.

Absolutely excellent work, you guys, as I've come to expect. Every one of the new tracks adds new depth to the album, and I'm really pleased with it overall.
I do have a few niggling issues with one or two tracks, but I'll save that for my review (which I'm not about to write an hour before work, ha).

At least the typo wasn't with that piece's sister track -- "The Girl Who Forgot What Time It Is" would be a tad more awkward.
I got my copy in the mail today and I'm very pleased with it. My poor laptop speakers seem to have a little bit of an issue with playing it without upper-end distortion, but I'll get over it. The "Star Stealing Girl" arrangement is far superior to all others I've heard. "Fields of Time" is by far my favorite piece on the album, it alone makes it worth having bought both the original and the remastered album. Great work on a wonderful job, guys, and here's one fan who's looking forward to the next one.
hmmm did it come via usps, ups or just mailman?

I agree with Flamesan. Everything just seems so much better even though it was good to begin with. The new songs are worth it, too. But I think my favorite part is when track 15 turns into track 17 on the tracklist. Just kidding, I suppose there had to be a typo somewhere...

Yo. I'm a long time friend of Kaijin's (sup Tim!), and I've been lurking around the board for about a month or two. I just finished listening through the T&S cd, so now would be a good time to finally pop in for a bit.
I'm VERY impressed with the album. I'm not going to go through each track (all which are excellent), but there were some tracks that stood out in my mind:
A Hero's Judgement - This one took me by surprise because I didn't think the original track would be likely to be remixed. I like how the beginning has that sophisicated feeling of a trial, but then BAM, welcome to hell. Your ass is 'bout to be thrown in jail and executed.
Guardian of Time - I want to praise Mustin and Kennedy for their rendition of Frog's theme. To me peronality, it sounds like a song a band of merry men would play out in the streets of some little village as they pranced around telling the tale
of a Hero, and that's a good thing.
Fields of Time - Very groovy. Me likes! 'Nuff said.
To Good Friends - Haha Tim, that Easter egg is great. Nice way of putting it in there man. =) Beautiful track nonetheless.
Navigation is Key! - Love it, but oh so short. D'gar!
Shake the Heavens - Okay, if there was one track that completely blew me away, it's this one. I haven't played Xenogears in years, yet as I listened, the entire emotional experience while playing the game suddenly came back to me. That was seriously an awesome impact. Makes me want to dig up that game all over again.
Overall, this CD was definitely a toe tapper and a head bobber. Thanks for awesome work guys. This is something I'll be listening to quite often. I look forward to One Up's future albums as well. Just remember to please allow my Timmy out of the slave ship galley every 2 and a half hours for some sunshine or else he'll get really grumpy!Mwahahaha.

I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed with this CD. Once I popped Time & Space into my CD player and began to listen, it didn't take me long at all to figure out that it would definitely be worth every penny. Each track is terrific in its own way, and I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute of the CD. There wasn't a single song on the album that I didn't like.
So my praise goes out to everyone who had a hand in creating this album. You've all done such a wonderful job with it! This certainly makes me want to look forward to all of the albums that OneUp Studios will be releasing in the future.
In short, Time & Space is definitely something that I'd recommend. (And I have!) =D

Hmmmmm. Mmmmhmmm yes. Very good indeed.
The new tracks are all great. I'm not quite as head over heels on Star Stealing Girl as some of the rest of the people here. Fields of Time is definitely my favorite new track though. Anyways what I really want to commend you guys on is the overall improved sound quality on the album. I'm shit when it comes to hearing that sort of thing but I could really tell here. Much improved. I love it. Money well spent.
To people who don't have Time and Space already: Definitely pick it up
To those who do: Tougher call. I'm going to try to be impartial here and say if you're iffy about it then wait. This isn't a limited run so they're not going to disappear on you. If you're severly in the negative then there probably isn't much convincing that I can do. If you're severly in the positive then I'm wasting my breathe and you already know how good it is. BLAZOW!!!!
One minor gripe to Mustin, you're comment under Star Stealing Girl in the liner notes made me wince. Damn pussy whipped bitch hehehe

*facepalm* I'm not going to say more, as I freak out enough when my ID3 tags are mislabelled.
Oh, well, all typos aside, I loved the album. I think I had to order it about three times since payment methods were against my buying this. The late release didn't even bother me. Seeing as how the original date was the day before my birthday, I couldn't resist trying once more, and boom, yesterday I step out onto the porch to find this little Priority Mail package sitting blissfuly ignorant before my feet like a stray left out in this harsh world with a little "please take care of him" sign tacked onto the basket.
....I'm going to kill the mailperson for not knocking or putting it in the $&*#ing box where it fits. If it'd been stolen...
I guess you can kinda tell I'm protective of the music I do buy. Especially this album, after hearing it in full.
Loudly.
From across the house.
I'm not going to bore people with a lengthy review, but I will say that my only real hang-up was that Mustin didn't play that bass in "Fields of Time".
Seriously, that's it. I still loved the track, it just kept it from ascending from "great" to "friggin' awesome".
If you guys ever release original work, I swear, I'm there. I just need to know when, where, and how much. ^_^ Keep up the awesome work.
'Navigation is Key!' is cool and all...but 'Chocobo Roundup' floors me -every- time. XD

Nice additions, I have to say. I'll put out for The Guardian of Time being the best of the new stuff, and A Hero's Judgement as the best of them all.
By the way, thanks for making the additions small enough so I could make a compilation CD with one copy of every track from both copies of T&S. ^_^

My poor laptop speakers seem to have a little bit of an issue with playing it without upper-end distortion, but I'll get over it.
Dude, dude! *PLEASE* get yourself at least a decent pair of headphones ($20-30), or an okay speaker set to hook it up to (~$50). *Anything* is much better than laptop speakers!! I know this, being the proud owner of a craptastic Dell laptop.
About the CD, I love it! It has the sound of a fine, polished product! Not to say that I don't have a few nitpicks, but I'll just revel in to goodness for now. *frolicks in the fields of time* :D
I guess William's tastes rubbed off on you, eh Mustin?
And... YOU DID A CELTIC-ISH SONG??? Stop the presses! I'm sure I can quote a couple times where Mustin has said "I'm never going to do Celtic." ;)

Hrm. I have an inherent distrust of small open-air headphones (vs. ones that cover your ears), but it's probably leaps better than weak laptop speakers.
These Sennheiser HD-497 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000065BPC//ref=pm_dp_ln_e_1/104-2961376-9673535?v=glance&s=electronics&n=172282&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER)s seem to give good sound, although it is a bit more expensive. And these ear-enclosed Sennheiser PX-200 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000089GN4/ref=pd_sim_electronics/104-2961376-9673535?v=glance&s=electronics)s look good too.

Like a lot of people, I was a little annoyed at first about the idea of shelling out for the new version of T&S... but I got over that real quick and plunked down my money for it. :D Now I'm glad I did. I already gave my thoughts on the original version when it was relased (summary: *lust*), so I'll just go through the new stuff:
Star Stealing Girl: Gorgeous. This is probably the piece on the album that I was looking forward to the most, since it's my favorite from the CC OST, and one of my favorite songs in general. The original had such despair, and while this does keep a little of that, there's also a lot of warmth in it, particularly in the saxophone part in the beginning. Who is this Sara Broome, incidentally? Does someone at OUS know her, or did you hold auditions for the part? She's got a lovely voice, and I wouldn't mind hearing her in future OUS albums. Great stuff.
Guardian of Time: Oooh. It's got all the medieval flavor to it that a Frog arrangement should have. Towards the beginning it sounds very courtly, and I can just imagine women in big poofy gowns being twirled elegantly around a ballroom by their gentlemen suitors (who may or may not be green).
Dream of Another Time: This one didn't really grab me the first time through, but the more I listen, the more I like it. I'm especially tickled that even though the Wind Scene arrangement from the first T&S was dropped, we got to keep a little of that wonderful song anyway. :D Don't know why Mustin's apologizing about it.
Fields of Time: God, it's good to be alive. This is absolutely top-notch stuff, and probably my favorite of the new material. Even though it's technically a CC arrangement, it's nice that the Chrono Trigger theme ended up on the album - almost didn't seem right to have a Mitsuda tribute without it. If only Brink of Time sounded this good.
To Good Friends: Greatly improved over the original. Which was not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but this version just feels a lot more satisfying and fuller. And if this is the kind of piano work we can expect from Shake the Ivories, then sign me up.
Gentle Wind: I'm glad Dale left the guitar wails in the first chorus, because I'm strange and loved those in the first version. I was a little disappointed with this song at first because it lacked some of the raw energy of the original, but after reading the liner notes I realized that's of course the point. I'm a little curious though, why was Ailsean not involved in remaking this song? I hope he's still with OUS, because everything that man touches turns to sexy audio gold.
There really isn't a track on this CD I don't like. The album feels so solid and complete now, and I'm glad I went ahead and bought it, because it's completely worth it. I'm all psyched about the SEGA album now. :D

Allright, my opinions (BS) here...
New stuff first -
Star Stealing Girl - I didn't think I would like this. In fact, first time I listened through, I didn't. I just didn't think the jazzing it up would fit. Oddly enough though, it's now working for me. Go figure.
Guardian of Time - Awesome awesome track. A good different in that Mustin way. Odd, considering that most of this CD is Celtic flavored, and Mustin is different because he something that sounds straight out of the highlands of yore. My brain is odd. But the tune makes me smile, so it's damn good.
Dream of Another Time - Another Mustin Brand Different (TM). I have to say this is a bad sort of different though. I can't bring myself to like it. It's not bad, I just can't like the too-heavy bass without anything to lighten it. Maybe just not my flavor.
Fields of Time - This feels like a repeat of Wings of Time, especially towards the end. Suppose it can't be helped. I think it's a good repeat though, because that particular melody is damn good, and it's a different enough take on it.
To Good Friends - The original version of this on the first printing was allright, but didn't really hold up over time. It was very vanilla, if that makes any sense (if any of this makes sense, add two to your score), or lackluster, there's a better word. This take on it blows it out of the water. Love the mood of it. Massive thumbs up, and it ties with Guardian as the best new track on the album.
Gentle Wind - Was this completely redone? 'Cause at times it sounds like the same track, and other times it's massively better. It was a good track to begin with, so don't get me wrong, loving it either way.
As for the old stuff... Scars Left by Time is always damn good (mind you, I don't think you could make that set of Mitsuda's music bad no matter what you did to it), Hero's Judgement and Boy Feared by Time are good rocks, Parallelism I could give or take, I ALWAYS gets chilled by Girl Forgotten by Time (and is my personal favorite out of everything), Wings of Time good to hear, Good to be Home my 2nd favorite old track, Fighting Priest just OK, Star of Hope a bit better than OK, Navigation is a hoot, June Memaid is great, and Shake the Heavens is epic greatness. (/run-on)
I miss To Times Once Forgotten from the old CD, but that's what burned mixes are for (and I can add in Hip-Hop Corridor from Squaredance). Most of the other dropped tracks were tracks worth dropping - good stuff, but just not holding up over time. At least for me.
End BS.

Oh, and Mustin/Dale/Everyone else on the CD:
The thank yous in the book to me blew me away. The last thing that I expected was to be thanked by you guys & OneUp as a whole on this CD, and it came as a shock and made my day when I read the thank yous.
All I can say is, I don't really know what I did, but you're welcome. :|

I'm glad I'm reading good things. Really glad.
I wanted to respond to a couple of things (going down the list) :
1. Agreeage w/ Moguta on all points. I own a Dell laptop also. You're going to get distortion on almost all full frequency/range material. Even their highest end laptops (my brother has a kickass one) have horrid speakers. I also agree with him on his headphone recommendations. You can never go wrong with Sennys. Even their cheapest ones sound a lot better than most. Some even better choices:

What I use in my studio. (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=030704082039208180211007529447/g=home/search/detail/base_id/57866)
What mustin uses in his studio. (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=030704082039208180211007529447/g=home/search/detail/base_id/55985)
They're both amazing, both $100, and both used the world over in almost every major recording studio. We use one or the other in pretty much every recording session we do. If you truly want the best headhpones, try one of these.
2. Vaeran, you'll be glad to hear you'll be hearing more of Mrs Sara Broome in the future.
And on Gentle Wind, Ailsean Was involved. He played all new guitar for it. I'm glad you're pumped for the sega album, I am too.
3. dilbert627, we aim to use more live strings in the coming releases. guardian of time is a great example of why we should do so.
4. Radhil. Yay for your comments on To Good friends (and I'm sure Tim echoes that). Made my morning to hear/read that.

Just want to give a shoutout to the OneUp crew you guys sho' did "Heave" and "Ho" to get this album out.
Okay, so top three would be 1. Shake the Heavens 2. June Mermaid 3. Star Stealing Girl
Shake the Heavens was a grand Medley, most of which was beyond terrific! Great orchestration, great arrangement, great performance!! I don't quite know why I liked the "slow songs" a lot more, but June Mermaid was such a great rendition and the song is beautifully played. Dale, I think it's your best on the record..Ms. Broome's voice was breath-taking on Star Stealing Girl. I look forward to hearing her again.
Parallelism, Wings of Time, and the Girl Forgotten by Time were excellent as well. I could go on and on about the various tracks, but I'll leave that to the reviews that will soon appear on soundtrackcentral, rpgfan, etc...
I really loved the album both as a musician and an avid fan of Mitsuda. Great job!

I agree with Radhil. The rework of To Good Friends really fleshed out the emotions in the piece. The previous arrangement was more of a "quick ditty."
I hope to see you on more OUS stuff, Kai. I've always liked your stuff, even from back in the day with Sonic Bluest Sky & Xenogears Soft Wind's Cry. :)

Hey Mustin... is that 'click' right at the beginning of "Dream of Another Time" intentional? Or is it some error in my CD?
Also, Radhil...
Fields of Time - This feels like a repeat of Wings of Time, especially towards the end. Suppose it can't be helped. I think it's a good repeat though, because that particular melody is damn good, and it's a different enough take on it.
Field of Time is one of the cameos of the Chrono Trigger Theme in Chrono Cross. (The Dream that Time Dreams & Chronomantique are two others.) It's completely different from Wings of Time, aka the Chrono Trigger Silvard ship theme. Perhaps the fact that both songs have the sax playing the melody got you mixed up?

Also, Radhil... *snip*

It's completely different from Wings of Time, aka the Chrono Trigger Silvard ship theme. Perhaps the fact that both songs have the sax playing the melody got you mixed up?
I've got the 'click' (but it sounds more like a stereo pop) on mine. Production error. *shrug*
It's probably just the sax segment, yeah. I swear though, Wings of Time has so many cameos it's nutty. Both with Mitsuda in the CC OST, and with OneUp. I'm pretty sure I picked it up in one or two other tracks just in this CD. Or I'm just tired and delusional. Again.
I was very pleased to discover Time and Space sitting in my mailbox when I arived home this evening. At this point in time I have listened to the album three times while hulking out Noah in some Phantasy Star, and I'm working on a fourth listen-through.
And I have to say that I am impressed. I missed out on the last release. GameMusic.com sold out the day before I got my money in. Curse them. But I did get a chance to listen to most of it, as mp (I believe) put the mp3s on his website soon after.
I have to admit that after listening to the original printing I wasn't terribly impressed. In retrospect I'm not entirely sure why. Most of it felt uninspired, but now I find myself loving almost every track on the new release. But enough about that. This is about the NEW Time and Space.
The first eight tracks are all amazingly strong and I was very pleased to see that most of my favorite tracks from the Chrono games were included. I won't mention every track, only the ones that stick out in my mind for whatever reason.
I was pleased to see that the One Up Mushrooms did Star Stealing Girl. As a fan of both the original (and nearly every remix) and the stylings of one Antonio Carlos Jobim, I was put into such a sense of relaxation by this song. And the voice that was used was wonderful as well. I loved the more droning "Ya" sound as opposed to the "La" sounds that usually accompany this piece. And please don't take "droning" to be an insult. This is some damn fine droning!
A Hero's Judgement amazed me as well. When I first played through Chrono Trigger at the tender young age of 15 this was instantly one of my favorite pieces, one that was linked in my mind to Kefka's theme from Final Fantasy III (my other favorite at the time). I would play to the courtroom scene and just leave the game on, letting the music loop.
The addition of Sean's guitars on this track was simply amazing and unexpected. It took me by surprise and set my heart racing. As if the intense violins in the intro didn't do that already... I only have one complaint about this song. It's too short! I would have loved to hear this song go on another minute or ten. Even if it was just a loop.
The Girl Feared by Time and Navigation is the Key! (associated in my mind as they start with a similar drumbeat) are two of my favorites off the original and have made their way onto my current tape that I listen to while walking to work. Girl is the perfect length and has makes some amazing changes over the course of the five minutes. And I love the builds. Mellow yet intense. As the volume rises so does the intensity but the overall feeling of relaxation never quite leaves. If that makes sense.
Wings of Time, Dream of Another Time and Fields of Time all get high marks for the incredible use of amazing jazz. Each of these songs stays true to the feeling of the originals, but the paths that are taken during the progression are wonderful. The super intense Wings of Time is toned down quite a bit, making me feel as though I'm riding the Epoch back in time to an untainted Carribean island instead of the belly of a beast that wants to eat the world. And I have to say, Dale, this does sound like a lost Brink of Time track. Color me impressed.
The Fighting Priest and Shake the Heavens both immediately grabbed my attention. Sean's gentle guitar intro on Priest really set the scene well and was a perfect intro to the rad build and break he provides a moment later. The intro is dark and slightly creepy, yet it shows some hope, as though there was a single ray of light shining in through the forest. Then the break happens and the song is thrust into a totally different light, becoming darker and heavier. But it survives.
Shake the Heavens made me happy. This one truly went the distance. Every time I thought it was over a new section came about, exciting me even more. The tension is never released and the builds keep coming. Epic film score stuff.
And let me conclude this section by saying that I have barely scratched the surface on Xenogears. This is a true testament to the talent and the potential that you all posess. I have occasionally found it difficult to enjoy a video game song from a game I have not played, as I have no emotional investment in the song at all. I have hardly played Xenogears, in fact I recognize none of these songs from the game itself. Yet I love them.
I have realized that I have written a great deal, and I must apologize that it is not over yet. But soon! Soon.
I have one last thing to comment on, and I suppose it's a nit that must be picked, if only for a moment. Good to be Home, To Good Friends, Gentle Wind and Star of Hope all left me cold. The style of these songs just doesn't do it for me. I understand why these styles were used for Friends and Wind, as the emotions captured by the original are also captured here. But those emotions are saccarin sweet and the music was just a little too "light jazz", "sweeping chords" for me (Important Note: I know very little about music. These terms are the best way I can describe these issues I have).
There. I said it. That said, overall this album was worth it. All of it. Even the songs I disliked are there for a reason. In those four songs I can still see the talent you all posess. Your love of your music shines through it all, and it shines brightly. But the greatest thing? There is still so much potential in you. You have made something good, if not great. But you have the potential to make things even greater than Time & Space. Had the ratio of good to bad been flipped I still would feel that this album was worth it as it meant that I would have been supporting you.
It has been years since I first discovered video game remixes. Up until that point I had no idea that something like that would even exist. I remember being fans of some of you since that first day I stumbled upon OCR. If you had told me on that day that KFSS and One Up Studios would be professionally producing their own work for sale I would have laughed. But now that this day is here I must say that I am glad. One step closer to truly legitimizing game music.
I only hope that the support you all are getting from this album is only a fraction of the support you will have for the next one. Rest assured that you have a permanent customer in me.
One question (yes, the epic review is over): Would it bother you if I were to play this at work tomorrow? I know that I'm technically not supposed to play licensed music for an audience, as that's like all those customers stealing your music. But, with your permission, I will spread the good word.
Good luck in all your future endeavors, sirs.

Sure, doing that is *technically* illegal, but unless you're selling tickets to have people listen in, it's usually never inforced. And I'm absolutely sure they wouldn't mind you playing it at work, OUS wants the word to spread as much as (more than?) you do. ^_^
EDIT: It's not that big of a deal, Dale. It was quite easy to remove the pop from the audio using Sound Forge, since it starts & ends before the music comes on. =p
Mustin sent me a PM last night after I posted. He gave me permission just so long as I sent anyone who asked this way. And I will. Oh yes. I will.

One minor gripe to Mustin, you're comment under Star Stealing Girl in the liner notes made me wince. Damn pussy whipped bitch hehehe
Anybody else notice how the QotDs lately have focused on Mustin and Erin? I miss Flik and Woff on the QotDs...
BTW...the album.
I liked the old artwork better now that I see it close up...but this art is pretty blue...so it's all confusing now!
The new tracks rock my ass three times from sunday...
Hearing Star Stealing Girl made me want the Shrooms album so much more...GOD DAMNED DELAYS!!!
Sadly, as awesome as SSG is, I still like Haroon's version better...But still, MUCH love to the Shrooms...GET THAT DAMN CD OUT!!!!

I have HP laptop speakers, and they're pretty decent. I've never noticed any obvious distortion or static from them. However, I also have a good set of headphones.

Overall, I love the CD. I didn't get the old one, so all the tracks are new to me. Here's my blow-by-blow review:
1. Scars Left By Time
This is a great track. However, the irish whistle in this track is my least favorite performance of the instrument on the CD. There's a set of three notes in the first phrase that were played way too fast, and the fade-out sounds like it was done with a filter in software. But I like how this piece strikes a balance between the two kinds of rock tracks on the album, which I like to call Type 1 and Type 2 tracksÂ*– the rock-opera style "emotional" tracks and the more hardcore stuff, respectively.
2. Star Stealing Girl
I don't listen to this track as much as some of the others, not because it's bad, but just because it's not the kind of track that you can just start up no matter what mood you're in. But the Shrooms play well, Sara's voice is beautiful, and there's absolutely nothing I'd change about this song.
3. A Hero's Judgement
You can really tell this was originally a hip-hop track. It has sort of a "dirty" (in emotion, not sound quality) feel that's pretty interesting, and the Trial isn't a track that's remixed much. (There was Spekkosaurus' "The Trial in Concert", which was just about the exact opposite of A Hero's Judgement.) One minor quibble is that in the last section, the repetitive background melody is kind of drowned out by the main melody, which sounds kind of weird by itself (I hope that makes sense).
4. Parallelism (The Frozen Flame)
Most people don't seem to think this track's all that incredible, judging from the apathy of Matt's commentary and people's repsonses, but I like it. Maybe it's just because I liked the original track so much, but this remix does a good job of conveying some strong emotions while remaining laidback. I especially like the variation on the main melody from 0:49 to 1:08.
5. Guardian of Time
I didn't really like the demo for this one, but the track turned out much better than I expected. The violins are powerful both in the beginning and later in the song. The only problem I can see is that the "ding!" bell noises are a bit too loud.
6. The Boy Feared By Time
This track isn't the style of music I like, but it's fun to listen to anyway. I like how Sean was trying to crank the manliness level up as high as possible with the primal guitar solos and latin section.
7. The Girl Forgotten By Time
I don't listen to this track all that much. Not that it isn't good, but it just moves a bit too slowly, and seems kind of unenergetic compared to some of the others. I can't really offer any technical commentary except that I thought the bassline from 1:03 to 1:14 sounded cool, but kind of unfitting for the song (it belongs in a rock track or something).
8. Wings of Time
This is awesome. It sounds very clean and professional, and is exactly what the original track should have sounded like. I can just imagine Square making a PS2 remake of Chrono Trigger and making this play when you fly around in the Epoch.
9. Good to be Home
Another great one. I remember thinking that this track sounded cool when I played Chrono Cross, and this remix takes it to a new level. This is one of the two Type 1 rock tracks on the album, and I think it's the better of the two.
10. Dream of Another Time
I'm not a fan of this track at all. The musical style just seems monotonous and boring, not to mention that the recording quality seems a bit worse than most of the other tracks. I do like the Wind Scene quote, though.
11. Fields of Time
Pretty cool. I love the part played by the warbly instrument (piano? guitar? I don't know too much about music). Something that's cool about this track is that it doesn't just have one melody with a bunch of supporting chords; each instrument seems to be "doing it's own thing", and yet it all comes together into one enjoyable groove.
12. To Good Friends
This is another one that you have to be in a certain mood to listen to, but it's certainly a very good piece. The instrumentation sounds really clean and flowing. To some people, it might sound kind of sappy, but as someone who really likes Chrono Trigger, I don't think so.
13. The Fighting Priest
This is a good track, but it seems a bit short and simple compared to things like Fields of Time and Shake the Heavens. It's cool in itself, but underwhelming when you take the rest of the CD into consideration.
14. June Mermaid
Like Star Stealing Girl and To Good Friends, you can't just start up your CD player anytime and listen to this. But it's a very good track for evoking a specific, powerful emotion. Try listening to this after you go to bed when the lights are out.
15. Navigation is Key!
After hearing that this was a "fun track", I was a bit suprised to see that it actually sounds darker than the original, with the bells and all. There's not much to say except that the voiceovers are hilarious and I love Dale's commentary in the liner notes!
16. Gentle Wind
This is the other "Type 1" rock track. I liked the original song and this is a nice remix of it. However, there's one annoyance – right before the energetic guitar section, the accentuated notes are loud and high enough to make my ears hurt, and I'm not listening at an extremely high volume or anything.
17. Star of Hope
This is certainly one of my favorites. The remix work itself isn't anything breathtaking, but that fits the simple melody, and what a great melody it is! I always smile when it gets to the faster section of it.
18. Shake the Heavens
Wow. I think that everything I could say has already been said here and in other threads, but I'll throw out a few words: epic, dramatic, powerful.
By the way, I played some of this CD to a friend, and his response wasn't nearly as positive as mine (keep in mind that he knows a lot more about music than me). He liked Shake the Heavens, but he said that the saxaphones in Star Stealing Girl and Fields of Time weren't "bright" enough. In particular, he said that the sax in Fields of Time sounded "like it had a bunch of cotton stuffed up it". Whatever. :?

I enjoyed the first version of T&S; I enjoyed this one just as much. Even though there weren't many new tracks, they were all still very good. I didn't really care for the new version of "To Good Friends" or "Gentle Wind," but the rest of the new songs really made up for it.
Guardian of Time--Best arrangement of Frog's Theme I've heard so far. And I love Frog's Theme.
Star-Stealing Girl--The arrangement on the original version of T&S was one of the few I didn't really like. As a matter of fact, there aren't too many versions of this song that I really do like; I'm just not that big a fan of the original piece, either. However, this OneUp Mushrooms version is simply fantastic. I hope I hear more OUM stuff in the future, especially if it features Sara Broome.
Dream of Another Time--While "Reiterated Inspiration" on SquareDance took the backbeat of the original Another World theme but left out the actual melody, this song did just the opposite, making them perfect complements to one another. I particularly love the quote of "Wind Scene" in the middle.
Fields of Time--Great arrangement of the Home World theme. I've always loved the Chrono series main theme, in almost any version. Truly awesome.
My one complaint is that a couple of my favorites from the first version, "Terminacoustica" and "To Times Once Forgotten," didn't make it onto this cd. However, that really doesn't matter, since I got the original version before it sold out.
Great job guys, and keep it coming.

Question...does the cd come with an obi?
No, it does not. However, the original T&S's obi came apart quite easily, so I'm not dissapointed in the lack of one.
Ybrik:
How could you not care for the new "To Good Friends?" It conveys the emotions of the original & doubly more. It *is* calm, but that's just what the piece is about; calm but emotional reflections on your best friends!
As for this "Gentle Wind," at least Dale has learned how to *not* make an electric guitar drown out everything but the percussion. ;)
I didn't like the increase in tempo over the first arrangement (increase in tempo not equal to more calm), nor did I like the complete abscense of the clean jazz guitar voice, but otherwise it was pretty good. It feels closer to the Xenogears OST "Singing of the Gentle Wind."

Just got my copy today, and I absolutely love it :D . I don't feel the need to put up a review of each track, since so many have done so already. I am sincerely grateful to OneUp for rereleasing this, after having missed it the first time. It really is such an amazing piece of work, and it would be a shame not to be able to listen to it.
Now I've got to get used to songs not switching abrubtly to others like I am used to from the demo tracks. It's a little tough listening to "June Mermaid" thinking that it's going to suddenly fade into "The Boy Feared by Time" ;) .

Haha, I had that problem, too. I was use to listening to Guardian of Time transition into something else. Same with listening to PMM and SD's demo mp3.
Ya, I got my Time & Space "Second Edition" CD in the mail today, a little late because I currently have a temporary redirect on my mail, and the post office seems to have decided to send it to me in weekly installments.
Anyway, it's brilliant. The improvement in sound quality over the first version is definitely noticeable, which is a good thing, and the new tracks are great. Congratulations!
Now I can't wait for the new CDs to be released. These are exciting times indeed!

I love this cd. The only complant I have if any is of my own fault. I've listened to the Time & Space demo mp3 so (emphsis on 'so') many times that in a lot of these songs I keep thinking that it's going to switch on me. When it doesn't I have to remind myself this is how it's supposed to sound like...not a huge medly.
For example, on The Hero's Judgement song I keep thinking it's about to switch just after the electric guitar comes in and starts playing.

I haven't registered just yet....but I've got both prints of this album, and the new stuff on the second print is absolutely fantastic, especially "Fields of Time."
Anyway...is the irish whistle part on the opening track in any way inspired by "Bird Song" from the Escaflowne movie?
Mustin
10-07-2003, 11:29 PM
There has been a lot of talk about the Irish Whistle at the beginning of "Scars of Time" and it's derivitave. I'm not sure about the confusion, because it's just the theme from the chorus of the song with a bit more "flare."
But maybe Mark had some other inspirations in the way that he performed it. I haven't talked to him in ages, so I'm not sure what he'd say, but I'll ask the next time I see him.
Kae lives. I really need to start paying more attention to.. everything. ;)
The irish whistle was just something I wanted to do. I've always been a fan of celtic music, as I have much Scottish and some Irish blood in me, and I've always been entranced by the horrifying wail of the bagpipes. ;)
Mitsuda already had alot of celtic elements in his music, and it just sounded really cool, so I decided to record it, the crew liked it, and it went in.
However, a few months after Time & Space came out, I was listening to the Escaflowne Movie OST, and noticed the similarity in style to my Scars into and Bird Song. Especially the first three lead-in notes. So, I would have to say that Bird Song did play some part inspirationally, but it was entirely subconscious at the time.

How come on June Mermaid and Time's Scars there is like a soft buzzing in the background? Is it supposed to be like that?
Also my favorite songs are:
Hero's Judgement-Good beat and good guitar done by Dale
To Good Friends- Cool song for the ending to CT
Fighting Priest- I liked it when it became faster( and how come there was a hum in it too? )
Boy Feared by Time- Awesome song done w/ guitars

I love the album. It's amazing! Pity I have the old one but nonetheless, it's still a very good album. :-) I like how you guys put sound effects as the transition between the games. :-)
I especially like A Hero's Judgement, To Times Once Forgotten, June Mermaid and Shake the Heavens.
A Hero's Judgement has a very good Baroque-styled opening with string quartet. The problem is the 1st violin (lead violin) can't stand up to the rest of the instruments. You guys should have made it louder, tone down the 2nd violin and viola a bit and keep the cello as it is now. Nonetheless, it's still a very good piece of music...Never crossed in my mind that this was "The Trial" until I heard the heavily-flanged guitar part that tells it. I really love it. :-)
To Times Once Forgotten, is the music I like a lot. The original was my favourite of all the Chrono Trigger's soundtrack and this one takes it to a new level. When I heard it for the the first time it doesn't have any hint that it was arranged after "Wind Scene". I like the unusual use of percussion in this music, although no one would put percussion in this kind of music (except timpani) but you guys managed to put percussions such as snare drums, chimes, etc without breaking the overall composition. The thing is, this track lacks dynamic...simple problem but disastrous, considering without dynamics, pressures and accents music will sound boring. Anyway, this is still a very good piece of music. :-)
June Mermaid is a very very good piece. A little bit more mysterious than the original with it's opening piano part. Then comes in the english horn accopanying the piano which is very close to the original followed by the overwhelming strings and pizzicato (the pizzicato sounds too percussive, in my opinion), ended with cello and oboe.
Shake the Heavens. A very, very good piece of music and is my favourite in the entire album. The original ones were some of my favourite musics also. Starts out with Omen (which is my favourite in the entire album) a very mysterious piece...great use of piano and harp, guys. Then the second part coming which is The One Who Bares Fangs at God...the arrangement of the orchestra is very good with the sound effects (imagine a DJ in the middle of a philharmonic orchestra). Really like the percussion part. The last part is the Awakening, which, in my opnion lack of originality like the 2 previous parts...sounds very close to the original (which is good for others and not very good for others)...I was expecting a little bit more "distortion" from the original music like the 2nd part and the ending isn't really great considering this is the last track of the album.
Sorry for my long post. :-P I just can't resist. ;-))

I got the "green" first edition back in December of 2003, and a year later, I'm still listening to it.
And that was enough to convince me to buy the "blue" second edition for 6~7 new tracks.
The jazz arrangements on the second edition album...well, OUS does some kickin' jazz, I definitely look forward to OUS doing some more jazz work, that and I rely on them to get my fix of jazz...I just don't know of any other good jazz musicians that release inspired work (perhaps someone can fill me in on what I may be missing?)
These pieces really do sound like they belong on the Chrono Trigger arranged jazz album.
And of course, the nostalgic pieces on both albums always get to me; I just don't know how they could not put "To Times Once Forgotten" and "Journey for Her Thoughts" on the second album! Those were very inspired pieces.
And both versions of "To Good Friends" and "Gentle Wind" are pieces I am very fond of as well. After hearing those pieces, I'm really looking forward to the Xenogears piano album.
The only pieces I didn't like were "Terminacoustica," "Song of Feeling," or "Guardian of Time." The first two mentioned were very bland and plain, felt uninspired, and just sounded like they couldn't do what they wanted to with them. And the third mentioned piece just felt...overdone, and I found it difficult if not just irritating, to listen to.
As for the CD cover graphics, both were cool, but the graphic for the first edition was cooler, considering that it was original.

I don't know if I've posted this before, but I just wanted to let you guys know that even though I love your stuff, I think the songs should be longer. Like, I loved "Shake the Heavens," but on the other songs, I just kept wishing that there would be more, because the ideas are all really exciting. Just a suggestion. I know you want to get as many songs as possible in a given CD, but with the level of musicality in these songs, I know that I would absolutly love to hear longer arrangements. Like, "Summers" really hit the spot. It was a beautiful and exhilerating journey--you guys took a certain set of ideas and you expanded on them and tried different things--harmonizing, solos, speeding it up, etc. I think this journey thing is an excellent quality to have in music. Just a thought.

All I can say that the album is impressive. Solid arrangements and ever more, performances are sheer quality too. Both aspects are better than in the first "version"
There's this eerie mood that covers the whole album from the beginning to the end. Melancholy and sorrow seem to be the main subject overall, the pieces are beautiful but so sad. Best example of that sadness is Guardian of Time, a piece that has a super-positive (uh, not the right word, I know) medieval market place melody. On this album it gets an autumn color arrangement in it. Sad and preparing for something.
The Boy Feared by Time was my utmost favourite on the original Time & Space album, and now it gets a few new competitors on it's side. A positive thing, I'd say.
The only down side is the length of the tracks, which was already mentioned by some in this thread. They're complete tracks, but some of them were screaming for a C- or even a D-part, just to make them a bit deeper and complex. For example Scars Left by Time could have offered so much to work on, perhaps even a long partly improvised solo. I can make wishes, can I?
Overall, it's rock solid work, and worth every cent. I think I could've even paid more of it.

I haven't really been following what has been going on with OUS, but I just recently noticed that the Time & Space CD cover is different than the one I have not to mention I remember buying the Time & Space CD back in 2002. I did some more investigation and finally figured out there are two different Time & Space CD's, with most of the same tracks. What happened? Why did you guys decide to release the same CD? Are all of the tracks that were on the CD before rearranged again or were only some redone?

if you had been paying attention to this topic, i'm sure by now you would have noticed that the original went out of print and that this is a re-release with improved sound quality and a few new tracks.
Am I s'posed to get a receipt after I place my order? I put in an order for T&S on Thursday, and I'm curious as to if the order went through and such.
Edit: And kudos to Mustin for immediately following up on that. GJ, keep it up!

If you join the site and are nice enough to everyone here, someone might let you have them.
I'd offer it myself, but I fucked up my space on TCU's server about five months ago and haven't bothered to fix it yet.

Well, I had finally bought the re-release of Time and Space along with my VBO Sega, and after listening to it several times through:
I am thoroughly impressed.
Seriously, I wasn't expecting the 2nd edition to be SO much better than the original, yet somehow it is. The new tracks are great, and although I did like a couple of Dan Barnaba's pieces from the 1st edition, these new arrangements really bring the album together as a whole much better. Overall the CD sounds much more cohesive, and it flows well from start to finish. I could definitely hear a marked improvement in the sound quality, especially in my car. With the 1st edition, some of the quieter tracks can be hard to hear well when driving on the freeway, but the 2nd edition plays loud and clear.
The album, as a whole, is very laid back and relaxing. I have to give all of the contributing artists credit on this point: I NEVER listened to or enjoyed jazzy music until this album.
Great job to everyone involved. For what it's worth, I would listen to Time & Space any day over the Brink of Time arranged album.

Man... I was happy enough with my original 'green' version of this... but when I heard that you guys had a new version out... I was like:
Whoa...
Yeah. That's pretty much my reaction. And you know the cool part? Once I get this new CD, I can have ALL the songs on my computer... all on one big playlist of happy musiczor!
Seriously, the first one totally threw me for a loop...I was overjoyed... but this new one? Woot. Infact, that's not just woot, that's l33t ninj4 in a box. A shiny, Neverwinter Nights-esque box. Yeah... it's THAT cool.
So... keep it up, and I'm so looking forward to Shake the Ivories... yeah... have fun, yo!

I can't stop listening to this album. Every remix (minus a couple) has kickass arranging that has fresh takes on very recognizable tunes. All fans of Chrono Trigger, and videogame music fans in general should listen to this and know what good, licensed remixing is supposed to sound like.

When I listened to this I felt the same way as when I played Chrono Chross (the game itself):
-The original was marginally better
-There were some really good parts
-But there were a lot of bad ones
-Lot's o' eyecandy (or earcandy in this case ;))
Oh, and the sound impressed my dad. These songs were the first VG music to do so. :D

Alright! A Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Xenogears tribute album!
I got this CD about 3, maybe 4 monthes ago, when I saw it on Gamemusic.com's home page, and I still LOVE listening to it!
But I doubt that tells you much, so...let's break it down!
01 Scars Left by Time
A rockin' ballad of the Chrono Cross opening theme, by Sean Stone & Dale North!
02 Star-Stealing Girl
A relaxed, latin-jazz version of the "Star-Stealing Girl" from Chrono Cross, done by the OneUp Mushrooms altogether, featuring Miss Sara Broome!
03 A Hero's Judgement
I LOVE this piece; first, it starts out all classical, then breaks into rock! Very clever interlude! Kind of almost reminds me of something from the Castlevania series :/ It's a remix of the "The Trial" from Chrono Trigger, done by Matt Pollard, Sean Stone, Dale North, and Roy McClanahan.
04 Parallelism
A relaxed jazz/maybe waltz version of the "Frozen Flame" from Chrono Cross, done by Matt Pollard. I thought just the original piece was good as is, but this's cool too!
05 Guardian of Time
Wow, they went really medieval, maybe medieval Celtic festivalish, with this one...a remix of Frog's theme from Chrono Trigger done by Mustin.
06 Boy Feared by Time
A Rock version of Magus's theme from Chrono Trigger, done by Sean Stone! "We wanted to portray him as a Spanish vampire, we think it suits him well!" The insert excerpt more or less explains it all, they slip some nuances of Spanish flair into there, too!
07 Girl Forgotten by Time
A Far-East Asian traditional music rendering of Schala's theme from Chrono Trigger, done by Mark Porter. Everything in this remix is so powerful, from the drums, to the woodwinds, to the strings...
08 Wings of Time
A jazz version of the Epoch's theme from Chrono Trigger, done by Dale North; interesting excerpt in the insert, it really does sound like a lost track off of the Chrono Trigger ~ Brink of Time jazz album!
09 Good to Be Home
A mellow rock ballad done by Dale North, of the Home World Voyage theme from Chrono Cross!
10 Dream of Another Time
A semi-moody, chillin' Latin-jazz version of the Another World map theme from Chrono Cross, done by Mustin.
11 Fields of Time
An appropriately REALLY UPBEAT Latin-jazz rendition of the Home World map theme from Chrono Cross done by mellogear & Mark Porter.
12 To Good Friends
A ballad version of the ending theme from Chrono Trigger, done by Dale North & Tim Sheehy!
13 Fighting Priest
It starts off as a mellow rock-ballad, but breaks out into full rockin' out! A remix of Billy's theme from Xenogears, done by Sean Stone.
14 June Mermaid
A moody piano rendition of the already moody "June Mermaid" from Xenogears, done by Dale North. They DO stick some other instruments, like the big bells, which REALLY set the atmosphere of doom and gloom.
15 Navigation Is Key!
Heeeaaavvveee-ho! Heeeaaavvveee-ho!
A grisly pirate remix of the Thames theme from Xenogears, complete with the sounds of waves and bouys, and the rowing of oars and pirates barking, done by Matt Pollard and Dale North.
16 Gentle Wind
A ballad version of the Nisan city theme from Xenogears, done by Dale North!
17 Star of Hope
A ballad version of Maria's theme from Xenogears, also done by Dale North!
18 Shake the Heavens
A classical/industrial rendtion of the opening theme from Xenogears, done by Mark Porter, Matt Pollard, and Dale North! Although, why put an opening theme at the END of the album? :/ Either way, this's a VERY POWERFUL piece, especially the percussion! This one rocked my world!
All in all, these remixs, in my humble opinion, are good enough to accompany great works of cinema, especially "Shake the Heavens," and each of the ballad remixs could've easily accompanied a touching scene in a movie, or the closing credits.
The OneUp team, you guys are bunch of rockin' bards!
(It just seems appropriate to make this comment of a bunch of dudes working on an album featuring Chrono Cross remixes, seeing as how Chrono Cross had a character called "Nikki, the rockin' bard." BTW, I don't mean any offense by this comment, just in case you don't like bards! ^_^v).

Because it isn't the opening song (which is entitled either "Dark World" or "Light from the Netherworld" depending on the translation you choose). Shake the Heavens is a medley of "Omen", "Awakening", and "One Who Bears Fangs at the Gods"; tracks near the end of the game including the final boss battle.

I'm not going to review song by song but in general this cd is amazing. It is my favorite OneUp disc (out of Squaredance, Time and Space, and Very Best of Sega). I love all the songs on the cd. Some get a little more love (Scars Left By Time, Star Stealing Girl and Guardian of Time) than the others but they are all great. The production quality and arrangement is top notch. Obviously a ton of work went into the cd and it was well worth the effort. Even the tracks from Xenogears (which I am not familiar with at all - don't ask me how I never got around to playing it! I'm really not sure myself) are very enjoyable even though I don't recognize the songs.
10/10 no doubt
p.s. if you listen to this in mp3 format, do yourself a favor and pop the cd in sometime. The cd is so much more amazing off the cd rather than compressed. You hear so many little things off the actual cd that get muddied or disappear altogether when compressed to mp3.
p.p.s. alisean's guitar playing melted my face off

Just for some reference, does anybody authorized to know, know if the quantity of albums will be as little for the OUM Album? I'm just assuming it was a little low because there are so little left.
So my mother and fathe are now huge OUS fans. I left the CD in my moms car while I was home fo rthe summer and she fell in love with it. My parents are huge Jazz people and started showing it to other Jazz friends of thiers. Then eventually theey asked who it was and where it came from. They could not believe it was inspired by the games I played. I think we're all eagerly awaiting some Final Fantasy Jazz

I just got Time & Space about a week or so ago, and I'm loving it.
Good to Be Home, June Mermaid, Wings of Time, Fields of Time, etc
They're all good!
Great work!
Just got it today! Wow!!! It's so freaking good! ^_______________^ As for a review okay..let's see where do I start....
1. Scars Left by Time
Very nice overall, I liked it. Actually better then the original version! w00t! ^_^ I don't
really see any negatives to this arrangement! Good job!
2. Star Stealing Girl
First off I'd like to say some majorage kudos to OneUp Mushrooms! Very nicely done! Also
I'd like to say how much I enjoyed the vocals ms. broome has a very nice voice indeed.
3. A Hero's Judgement
Ah, yes frog's theme...how could I forget? I love this track! ^_^ so epic and
wonderful sounding! I love the original still....but this one is great as well!
4. Parallelism (The Frozen Flame)
WOW! I'd have to say this is my most favorite track out of the entire cd. I just LOVE
the way this one is arranged. ^_^ VERY nice job guys! It's very soothing and calm
sounding.
5. Guardian of Time
This is also a very nice solid arrangement. No off sounding keys here. But like the
entire album, nothing sounds out of place or bad really. ^_^ I forget exactly where
in the game this one took place. ^_^;;;; but none the less it is a very nice
arrangement. good job!
6. The Boy Feared by Time
An interesting twist on Magus's theme. Well, I do have to say that magus's theme in
the original sounded kinda like a flamenco fast and heavy. ^_^ Almost spanish type i
inspired. So, this doesn't sound odd at all. Actually it enriches the piece. The most
upbeat track on this album really. So it's a good toss of variety in there.
7. The Girl Forgotten by Time
Ah, yes...very mystical sounding. I love the sounds of it. All very beautiful! ^_^ love
it! LOVE IT! It's my most favorite when it comes to beautiful sounding arrangements
on this album! w00t!
8. Wings of Time
I have always loved the original and wished someone would remix it! My wish came
true!! ^________^ you have no idea how happy this makes me! I love the remix! it
sounds great!!! the saxaphone gives it a great touch! the classic piano gotta love
that, plus the drums just give it an upbeat flair, which I again like! ^_^ so very nice
job on this one! :: gives double thumbs up ::
9. Good to be Home
So peaceful and beautiful! Dale really captured the essence of this piece really. I
can so imagine coming home to such a beautiful melody...Chrono Cross had some
goregous music to begin with, so naturally my expectations are very high on all the
remixes. This surpassed it. I absolutely love it! ^_^ thanks for remixing it dale!
10. Dream of Another Time
Ah, a slow piano piece with what is this? bongos? either way it is a nice touch. Kinda
an exotic feel to it. I liked the "Another world" theme...this just brings it out even
more! ^_^
11. Fields of Time
Oooh...I just absolutely love the saxaphone..it's so sexy sounding! And this just
makes the piece that much more awesome! It's a good arrangement! Another one of
favorites! ^_^ You guys rule for picking the most awesome tracks from the original
soundtracks to remix! so w00t again!
12. To Good Friends
Very nice, and classic sounding. It has that "we'll be friends forever" kind of
in there. I like it alot. I just wish I had good friends.....
13. The Fighting Priest
sounds like a classic town theme, but I could be wrong? I have no clue here but it
good. ^_^ plus, I liked the Xenogear game, I just unfortunately don't remember
a heck of a whole lot from it sadly. Very nice on the electric guitar btw.
14. June Mermaid
It's very sad sounding...like a death scene in the game. I'm not sure....explanation
above on why.
15. Navigation is Key!
Nice water effects, I definately feel like I'm on a captain's ship, with all the "HEAVE!
HO! ARRRR! going on as well, it adds...to the overall feeling. LOL. In a quirky way
but it works. LMAO. Nice job guys. I give you mad props for creativity here!
16. Gentle Wind
Very pretty and peaceful, I can imagine myself outside on a windy day the sun
shining brightly all around me....and best of all a slight cool breeze blowing through
my hair ever so softly....yes these images echo to me in my mind. Very nicely done!
I always love it, when the remixes include the electric guitar it gives it a sense of
a "pick me up" sort of sound. ^_^
17. Star of Hope
This almost reminds me of FFX in a way, but I won't go there. I will however say it is
a very nice piece also. ^_^ very soft and sweet sounding. Something I could go to
bed listening to. Very nice.
18. Shake the Heavens
Almost sounds like a prelude to something horrible happening in the game. Like an
evil plot about to go bad....but also sweet at the sametime, as if to say a glimer
of hope still remains...but it still remains uncertain...
Overall, this albums rating with me is A+++!!! Sorry for not remembering Xenogears as well as I should have...so rating parts of this album were rather difficult. ^_^;;;; So sorry guys!!! But there you have it! My review! ^_________^

Perhaps, but too much bass would have taken away the medieval feel. I personally love the track.
Geoffrey Taucer
12-12-2004, 10:46 AM
I thought the choir or whatever that was already took away from the medieval feel. I'm not saying it needed a lot of bass, but I definitely think it needed something in that lower range.
It amazes me that even after 2+ years we're still getting such positive feedback on this album. It gives me all sorts of warmfuzzies inside. *sniff*

Been meaning to post on this for awhile.
I think I somehow ended up with a bootleg of this album. :/
It has the OneUp Studios logo on it, but the title is misspelled "A Tribute to Yasunaori Mitsuda" and the tracklisting also skips from 15 to 17.
The music itself is good, but it plays back sounding all kind of tinny, like with some interference in the background.
I mean, I guess there's nothing really wrong with it, but thought I'd just point it out. I mean, ARE those signs of a bootleg album?
And, how could you NOT remix "Chrono Corridor" on a Yasunori Mitsuda tribute album? Sure, it was already on Squaredance twice, but Magus's theme was remixed on both Squaredance and Time & Space!
Glad to see Schala's theme and the Epoch's theme remixed, as those weren't covered on the Chrono Trigger arranged album.
I wonder what Mitsuda would say if he heard this album? You should send him a copy if you haven't already!

It's not Mustin's fault. He passed the art on to multiple proofreaders who failed to notice shit. Hence why Flik is now our official noticer of shit. That aside, if you're going to whine and bitch about one typo, please refrain from posting about it on this site. We've already decided that future prints (same album, not like last time) will feature fixed typos, so please let it go and get on with your life of post whoring.

I love how no one here can admit when they're wrong, and when they're wrong, can't humbly apologize, and instead just make excuses and say things like "it's irrelevant, you're overreacting."
that's the wonderful thing, nobody is wrong and you're continuing the argument. nobody needs to apologize to you for anything, let it go junior.

So, now that there isn't any more Time & Space, what does that mean about new people who've found out too late about its goodness? Are they just screwed? Or does the legality not matter anymore since no more is being produced and they can just get mp3s from someone?

I don't think it ever really mattered, since I doubt OUS could've ever afforded to hire a lawyer to pursue a case against infringers. But since the album is OOP and no more money can be made from it, at least your conscience can be eased.
I mean, people will fileshare, legality nonwithstanding.

I think the more complete answer is that Mustin has always taken the stance of "If it's out of print, share away." But just to make sure he's all right with it, perhaps we should wait for his official word.

But maybe you could make it a couple dollars cheaper since the CD/jewel case/notes are not included?

I heard one song from this album on an online radio station, I WANT IT, but I can't get my hands on a copy of one except for a current $125 ebay sale (which I can only 'buy now' because otherwise they won't ship to the UK), any other places I can look?

I was quite lucky with this one, I found out about the OneUps right as they RAN OUT of this CD. I bid on the last batch of ones with the cracked jewel case (which I don't care about), and got it on one of the last auctions! Lost the bid on all the first ones.

Well, I've had this cd for a while now, obviously, it's out of print. o,0
Additionally, I only have the original one that I got shortly after it's release date. I NEVER knew a second version was released. the title is the same :o
That's unfortunate, Frog's Theme owns me, and if Gentle Wind was redone I would love to hear it. Favorite song on the OST right there.
Anyhow, the original CD is also godly, it's always been rated high on my cd collection. I love every track about, favorites being Scars Left By Time, Gentle Wind, and my favorite on the cd-- Star of Hope.
I really haven't been with the times, I came here planning on buying this cd as a b-day gift for my brother. Found it was out of print, demo'd some songs from this page and I was like 'wtf that is so not on my cd'
Oh well, I then saw Xenogears Light and Volume 1, so I ordered two copies of Xenogears Light and gave him that.

The "green" Time & Space was the original release. After selling out completely, demand was high for a reprint and instead of doing just a straight re-release, they did a "special edition" of sorts. They removed all of Dan Barnaba's songs, as they were felt to be weaker than the others, not to mention there was a falling out between Dan and the rest of the team. New songs were recorded featuring The OneUps (then known as The OneUp Mushrooms), mellogear, Tim "Kaijin" Sheehy and Greg Kennedy in addition to other songs being remastered and retooled.
It's said to be the ideal version of the CD, though some still feel it's not perfect.
Guess you can't please everybody all the time.
Time & Space is still the most loved and most popular of the OUS releases, and it's easy to see why.

If you aren't subscribed to the newsletter, it was just recently announced that it will be getting another pressing. As said in the newsletter:
"Due to financial constraints, these "2nd Printing" versions will be "scaled down" from the original. Less than half of the original artwork. No skimping on the music, though, so don't worry. We had an artist make some excellent changes to the presentation, and buyers will know they're getting a second printing, which should not devalue the original printing at all. The albums will be on sale and shipping as soon as next week!"

Hmm, now that I looked at the tracks, the only songs of Dan's I like are the 600 AD remix and to a much lesser extent Journy for her Thoughts.

Hell's yeah...but the Dan Barnaba remixes from the original green version aren't being included?
You could fit it all on one disc, the content from the blue version, and the omitted compositions fro mthe green version, and would only provide extra incentive for customers to pick it up...

I don't think we'll be seeing Dan Barnaba's mixes on any other T&S release, re-release, anniversary release, collectors release, platinum collection release or whatever.
Green was rushed out for MAGFest. There were conflict's with Dan. His songs are considered the worst of the green album. I really doubt they'll be coming back.

Either you're joking, or you're just being REALLY critical...I love Barnaba's orchestral work...please tell me you're joking!
joe_cam
01-28-2006, 07:48 PM
Nope, not joking. Like the songs or not, most considered his stuff the least enjoyable.
But as noted above, there was also behind the scenes problems (that have been documented on these boards many moons ago, I don't think the threads even here anymore) and he will not be appearing on the album again.
I believe Mustin stated that the green was rushed for a MAGFest release and they weren't happy with the release so they redid a few songs, added new ones and released the blue album. The blue is considered the real release. If you note, the blue Time & Space is still listed as "OUS-001" and not "OUS-002" or anything else. The blue is the only version you'll be getting.
Unless I'm mistaken, in which I'd love a correction.
Mustin? Dale? Anybody else? Anything to add?
I mean I know I'm the big fan and all, but am I gonna be the OUS Historian now too?

Out of the Dan Barnaba songs, the only one I really, really like is Terminacoustica. That shit's great, because it's not synth orchestral. Also, I prefer the Dale/Dan version of To Good Friends over the Dale/Tim version (sorry, Kaijin!), and the first version of Singing of the Gentle Wind is slightly better in my opinion, too (though that's not a Dan track). And To Times Once Forgotten isn't too bad, but that's mostly because the source material (Wind Song/600 A.D.) is so great. A Journey For Her Thoughts and Song of Feeling suck major ass.
And that's my views on the Dan Barnaba tracks in a box full of nutshells.

By the art, they just meant the graphics and such in the liner notes (possibly some of the liner notes themselves). I'm pretty sure this was asked in this thread already because someone had explained it to me before.

Version 1- Time & Space (Green) - Discontinued - Features songs by Dan Barnaba which don't appear in any other version.
Version 2- Time & Space (Blue) - Discontinued - New version (director's cut) of Time & Space with all of Dan Barnaba's songs removed and replaced with other (some may call better) tracks. Comes with a multipage booklet with expanded liner notes.
Version 3- Time & Space (Blue) - Sold Out (Possible Reprint coming this Summer?) - Same as the Version 2 album but with a significantly cut down booklet and liner notes. Presently sold out, but due to the appearance of The OneUps at PAX this summer, I would imagine that all OUS albums will be getting a reprint to sell to the hordes of new fans there.

Well, I randomly heard the friggin' awesome, Super Mario's Sleigh Ride, and found it at OCremix.org, then eventually found it was from The Oneups/Oneup Studios. Then I became a fan after hearing more of the free demos, and I wanted to support you guys. So I bugged Mustin about stuff through contacts (since all the albums were sold out) and then I finally got The Oneups Volume 1 and The Very Best of Sega! Well...coming back on an album, doubtful, haha. But I've overhauled 3 of these tracks in one form or another over the years.
"Journey For Her Thoughts" made a reappearance--much closer to the way I originally wanted but couldn't have it--in "To Times Once Forgotten," which has been here for a while:
http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01386/
...ditto for the original "To Times Once Forgotten," although I and it seems many others were pretty happy with the way it turned out initially. "Sang of Feeling"...I won't go into a very long story about it, but there's an original, less-harsh version on my website, not to mention the overhauled orchestral version here:
http://ocremix.org/remix/OCR01501/
"Terminacoustica" won't ever change, because it's live guitar, which is Win as far as I'm concerned. Ditto for "To Good Friends," because I was always supremely happy with my first-ever collaboration.
Besides all that, everything I've done over the past 365 days far outshines anything I'd done during the T&S period, although it still remains a very memorable time for me.
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I felt the need, and I saw a few new posts anyway. ;)

haha...I appreciate the sentiment, but I definitely can't say the past year has rocked--like so much ass--in many respects. Musically, though, it's been by far my most pleasing and most productive so far. I seem to have had some decent luck with ocremix (another piece is due to be posted, but who knows exactly when that'll be), and I'm of course eagerly awaiting vgmix's return (psyched about much of the new system, also). So I was one of those people who was upset with the re-release drama of Time and Space, so I stopped getting anything from OUS or KFSS for the last 7 years or so. Now that I have a few more bucks than back then and with the ability to buy individual tracks, I'd like to pick up the new songs. I see "Star Stealing Girl", "Guardian of Time", "Good to Be Home", "Dream of Another Time", "Fields of Time", and a new "Good to Be Home". Were any of the other tracks changed or will I get all the new music if I buy those six?
