You ever wonder how the commercials were in the past? Of course you haven't because you probably saw them anyway unless you are a young one. Here is a link to some old commercials.

Btw, check out the first zelda commercial. Pretty messed up for todays standards.

Edit: And the power glove one is just awesome. I never had one either :(

Big League Chew ruled. Do they not sell it anymore?

My mom always pointed me out to the other moms during little league games as "that kid with a mouthful of gum".

Good times. : )

EDIT: SWEET. That site has one of those old McDonalds commericals with the walking Chicken Nuggets. AWESOME TO THE MAX!

Holy crap, I had one of those shitting baby dolls. No pun, of course.

The DnD was the best one though. Truly advertising to the right demographic.

Wow.

The one I remember seeing when it first aired, though, is the second one, with the crazy guy in a cell yelling "ZELDA!" (I had remembered it before as being a guy with a sword in a dungeon... but maybe that was a different one.)

ROTFL!!!

Now I know where they got that one scene in the flash "Miko Miko Nurse". Awesome. :D

I LOVE that site - one of my favorites. I visited it a few months ago after seeing it on linkfilter. If you guys have a lot of free time and like checking out cool links, you should go to

http://www.linkfilter.net

I get all of my news and entertainment from that site. But it's a huge time drainer.

What really surprised me about that retro site is that of all the commercials, I remembered the Encyclopedia Britanica one the most.

That site really brought back some memories. This is like my #5 site now. Hurrah! :D

Oh my god, that Zelda commercial was bad.

Hey, anyone remember the Link to the Past commercial, with Link climbing a mountain to get to the Master Sword? That was a cool commercial, back in the day.

Does anybody know where to find an old Snicker's commercial? I'm looking for the one with the referee trying to read the eye chart and he thinks he sees a cow.
That is like my absolute favorite commercial ever...

Ybrik Metaknight

One of my all-time favorite commercials is the Snickers commercial where the football player thinks he's Batman. Anyone remember that one? Great stuff.

Another personal fave is the FedEx, or USPS, or UPS, or something like that, commercial based on the Wizard of Oz Munchkin scene. The Lollipop Guild Munchkins are singing their song, and suddenly their voices go from high-pitched to as deep as Michael Clarke Duncan's. They stop singing quickly, and fill out some paperwork, and a few seconds later a delivery truck drops out of the sky (landing on the Wicked Witch of the East, natch) with some helium balloons for them, and they use them and go back to singing their song in their high-pitched voices. This one didn't air many times, as I think it debuted during the Super Bowl 4 or 5 years ago and was ripped from the airwaves within a week or so, probably due to pressure from some interest group comprising or sympathetic to "little people." Anyone else see this?

Help finding these commercials would also be greatly appreciated.

So if back then we were playing with power then what are we playing with now?

Well, let's see. Back when the Super NES came out, you were playing with Super Power. Then, early on in the N64's development, it was called the Ultra-64, so I guess then you were playing with Ultra Power. Let's see, and then, the Gamecube's early name was the Dolphin Project, so I guess now, you're playing with Dolphin Power. Weird how that works out, huh?

So, what, in a few months will we be playing with Dual Power? Or will that be just another level of Portable Power?

You'll be playing with a lot less money in your pocket.

HO! Score one for DCT!

The best commercial ever was the Nissan advert with these birds flying around trying to dive bomb a moving car while "Danger Zone" played in the background.

Classic.

Grammatical advice is very useful. You won't go far without speaking proper English, don't you agree? No you don't; philistine ingratitude from the fag gallery as usual.

The name of the Rocky song is "Eye of the Tiger"

No. The Rocky song, at least the main Rocky song, is "Gonna Fly Now."

SaveSuperJoe

Ok, the name of the Rocky song that they are parodying in the Starbucks commercial is called "Eye of the Tiger". sheesh.

Ybrik Metaknight
09-07-2004, 11:15 PM
OK. That very well may be. I know there is a song called "Eye of the Tiger" associated with one of the Rocky films, I believe Rocky IV. It's just that when someone says "the Rocky song," they're usually talking about the main theme, which is "Gonna Fly Now."

SaveSuperJoe
09-07-2004, 11:17 PM
Well, the thread thus far was referring to the song parodied in the Starbuck's commercial, and so, I replied "the Rocky song" referring to the song that was initially referred to. sheesh.

I keep wondering.

Is that the original band who performed the song? If it is, that would make the commercial 10x more awesome.

Miller
09-08-2004, 08:13 PM
Yep it is.. I had to find out myself:

Commercial: http://www.starbucks.com/grocery/dblshot.wmv

Band: http://www.kentsteel.com/DoveHouseShow.html

Henry Jones
09-09-2004, 01:25 AM
I knew it was them because I recognized them from when Conan did a parody on reality television.

(On a "reality show" about Survivor)

"Say..... remember that time we did 'Eye of the Tiger?'" *cut to another part of the house* "Hey.... I wore this shirt when we recorded 'Eye of the Tiger!'" *cut to the band watching Rocky III*

Note: This is not a perfect recollection of what was featured. It's just a general idea of the whole skit.

I like the Sprite commercial where Kobe Bryant tells you not to drink Sprite because of the celebrity endorsements. It's got this little picture of him holding bags of money that pops up in the corner every time he says something good about Sprite. It's really funny.

Kassi
09-10-2004, 03:05 AM
Oh man! I remember that commercial. When it came out I didn't know what "endorsement" meant, though, so i was a little confused. Now that I know that term and I remember the commercial, that really WAS a clever one. haha. At the time it was just like ... wtf is this cash popping up?
