Oh god. It's like J-pop Americana. We were all smoking the bad things in the 80s. I loved this song when it came out, though and I distinctly remember thinking I'd like to have Rainbow Brite as my girlfriend, even at the tender age of 8.

Aparently the Rainbow Brite movie is coming out on DVD November 2nd. Aww yeah!

Now I just need Rocko's Modern Life on DVD, and all will be well in the lands.

rocko's modern life was JAWESOME
Rainbow Bright was cool...but it was like being on drugs, that's for sure...
Rocko's Modern Life was cool too, it was disgusting to the point you could actually watch it and laugh, unlike ren and stimpy, that show was just WRONG!

RAINBOW BRITE!
Ah, man, I was such a Rainbow Brite girl. I liked Patty O'Green, 'cause she had freckles.

I couldn't agree more - I absolutely love the Rocko. I hope more great, "off-beat" cartoons make it to DVD, especially now that "Home Movies" will be out on DVD in a few months. :D :D :D :D

Everyone's a closet Rocko's Modern Life fan. Whee.
I liked it when Nickelodeon wasn't sucking hard. Fuck Spongebob.

Agreed.
As to Rainbow Brite... well.. I'm so sick of VH1's "Hey... remember the 80's" shows that I can't take Rainbow Brite anymore. Makes me think of all those VH1 shows and all the people saying.... Rainbow Brite was subtely sexual and all about the pron. Blah
Edit edit: nothing against Rainbow Brite... just VH1

See? They were right. Rainbow Brite IS all about the pr0n!
Myself, I think She-Ra was all about the porn too. Lesbian porn.

I never thought Rocko was that funny.
Then again, I've only seen a few episodes.
I don't think Spongebob is funny. At all.

Spongebob freaks me out. I agree with you. It's random, but it isn't funny.

Spongebob has always seemed like an un-funny Ren & Stimpy rip-off to me. :?

I like some Spongebob - Patrick is a hyperbole of a friend. However, a local university bookstore gave out free welcome packages to new students. Do you know who was all over the boxes? Goddamn Spongebob!
Songebob isnt nearlly as bad as those shows on that channel that actually "try" to be serious and just end up being really stupid. Such as Doug and "Hey Arnold". (commence flamming!) :D

Spongebob is hilarious. The first time I saw it, I didn't like it at all, I thought it was dumb. But after a few episodes and getting to know the characters and what they were about the show became hilarious.
I'm mad that Nick is cramming Spongebob down everybody's throat. It's over-saturating Spongebob everywhere and it'll quickly become overdone and played-out, like South Park.
And yeah Rocko's Modern Life is super awesome. One of the funniest eps I ever saw was when Filbert and Heifer were trying to get Rocko getting a midnight snack nude on video tape to send to a film festival. Ohhhh man that one was great. Invader Zim is uber-awesome too.

Doug was great until the movie and the new haircut on Patti and everything that followed.
Rugrats has always sucked.

Doug had drug overtones, the kid was WAY to paranoid.

Damn straight.
Doug I sorta liked for a while, but then I think I grew out of it.
Pretty much the only cartoons I watch now are shows like the Simpsons, Family Guy or Futurama (more adult-oriented humor); classic toons like the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Scooby Doo, Loony Tunes (and all related cartoons, such as Animaniacs), and Tom & Jerry; and, when I can find them, some of my favorite "other" cartoons, like the mid-90s Marvel cartoons (particularly X-Men), Where On Earth is Carmen Sandiego?, any of the Mario cartoons, and Mega Man.
Does anyone else think that the vast majority of Cartoon Network originals are just plain bad?

I wish they were only "plain" bad. Unfortunately, they're a highly rare form of bad, the kind that saps your intelligence like a giant, intelligence-sapping leech. They're like the Ankylosant Spondilytis of bad.

Donal Duck doesn't wear pants, nor does Grape Ape. Spongebob is the only character I can think of that actually does wear pants. Then there are guys like freakazoid that just run around in underwear...
Nudity was a serious problem in cartoons.

Yeah, and some of them still stick around *coughSoniccough*.
I recall in the first three episodes of Ed, Edd, and Eddy that I ever saw, somebody ended up naked in all of them. It was then I declared, that show was weird!

Hold up, hold up.
When did VH1 claim that Rainbow Brite was ripe with sexual subtext? Cause I've been thinking that since I was a wee trouser trout.
Has anyone done any expository writing on the subject? Is there a URL available?
VH1 is nothing more than nerds and no name comedians with too much air time to concetrate their focus on more popular matters that their say has no affect on. Not TV worthy!
Do they have rainbow brite on DVD?
