Zelda, and lots of it! :D

I second the Zelda-ness.

If you've got a GBA and someone to play with, I recommend FF: Crystal Chronicles. I like it more than Bryan does. He's currently playing Super Mario Sunshine, and I think that's an under-rated game. It looks like tons of fun.

Skies of Arcadia Legends if you can find it. Stellar RPG. Pikmin is also excellent, and Pikmin 2 comes out on the 30th. There's also always MGS: The Twin Snakes, and while I'd certainly recommend it (especially if you find it cheapish), some feel it's not all that great. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is really fun, too.

Oh, and I second both Zelda-ness and FF:CC.

The cell shading just really turns me away from the zelda, I dunno.

Then check out Four Swords Adventures. Or, if you can find one at a GameStop or EB Games somewhere near you, check out the Zelda collection disc with the original Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. At any rate, there's plenty of Zelda goodness to be had even if Wind Waker's art style turns you off.

If you like R-Type games you might give Ikaruga a try. Fair warning, that game can be mean even on the easy setting. Try giving the Wind Waker a rental before passing final judgement on it. I wasn't wild about the cell shading either but the game more than makes up for that in gameplay and story.

i have yet to grasp the reasons behind the immense backlash against the style in wind waker. if someone could explain it to me, that would be awesome.

Sweet... if I want to get it I have to start subscribing to Nintendo Power again.

I would, but I'm already in the middle of an NP subscription.

I'll register two more games to have enough for the disc. Maybe two more Classic NES games...

The only thing that could inspire me to register games or get an NP sub again would probably be if they decided to put together some sorta "Best of N64" GCN disc. Man...Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Star Fox 64...I would kill for those on GCN.

Actually, if they put any one of those on a bonus disc that you had to register games or subscribe to NP to get, I'd do it. I remember buying Mario & Luigi and never playing it (I still might play it someday) to get the Zelda disc. Best $30 I ever spent.

<3 ToS...also, Dimio totally fucking copied me, he was there two weeks ago when I bought my GCN and ToS and Metroid Prime.

And Wind Waker really is quite good.

ToS is cel-shaded too, and you have no issues with that.

The reason there was such a problem with the Cel-shading is because it makes it a worse game. The cel-shading affects the gameplay, which ruins any plot you could hope for, and just really renders the game out to be totally horrible. It was probably the biggest mistake Nintendo ever made. Also, Cel-shading makes it look so kiddy like, which is bad because we're all grown ups and we would never want to be caught dead playing a game that looked like a kids game. Also I heard that cel-shading some how creates a bug in the Gamecube that removes the plot and storyline out of the WindWaker CD.

I'm hoping they put Paper Mario on GCN as a pre-order bonus for Paper Mario 2. Mario & Luigi is a great game, by the way.

thanks for clearing that up for me, woffester. It's pretty obvious now that i think about it. It was totally right in front of my face. Ah well, next time i'll try to be more observant.

Har har har

I don't understand why people are turned off by kiddie Toon-shading techniques. You are a kid in the game after all. Why do you think Adult Link won't be Toon-shaded? It's because adult link looks horrible in cel-shaded graphics but perfectly matches the childish, artistic feel the WW aimed for. Of course if you judge a game by it's graphics you're missing a lot of art. :|

Not to say judging a game by its graphics is right (although my general dislike of cel-shaded graphics probably has something to do with why I've never finished or even gotten very far in Wind Waker, but I have tried to get past that), but...I have a real problem seeing any logic in this particular statement of yours, KWarp. If one doesn't like cel-shaded graphics, why would one like the art in a game with nothing but cel-shaded graphics?

Gendo Ikari

Cel-shaded graphics beat polygonal and pixelated graphics anyday.

That isn't too say that polygons and pixels xuxk, cel-shaded graphics are just prettier.

Adult link in the new GCN Zelda looks bad-ass.

And we like talking about Zelda, don't we? :D

Woffester

The art in Windwaker was better than any other Zelda game in the series, probably because that style allowed space for the art. The designs (graphical images on boxes, pots and what not), the temples, even the doors were simply amazing...Both qualitatively and quantitatively. There was SO much GOOD art in that game, it's worth buying if you're into that kind of thing.

KWarp
08-30-2004, 03:55 AM
Exactly. Many things that couldn't be done in previous Zeldas were accomplished here.

I don't neccesisarily mean visual art. I came back and played WW a full year of being sick of it just to enjoy the art displayed by the characters in the story and the enviornments. The type of intangable feel a player gets. That kind of thing.

Ybrik Metaknight
08-30-2004, 04:10 AM
Ah, well then you were somewhat unclear. You see, if you say "art" in a conversation almost entirely about graphics, people think you're talking about the visual art. You should specify if this is not the case.
