Today I was loafing around in my room when my brother came in and said MTV (or some other channel) was about to unveil the best videogame soundtrack this year. I quickly turned on the TV...
THOSE SICK! TASTELESS! BASTARDS!!!!!!
Tony Hawks Underground won, which isn't a problem for me. It's just that not one single title made my Nintendo, SEGA, Square, Rare, or any other remotely artistic game developer were on the nominations list!!!
I dropped my jaw, my eyes popped out, and broke my remote. MTV has no taste at all.

Yeah...that's because MTV is too mainstream. Of course they went with a title like Tony Hawk Underground. It has a "mainstream" type of soundtrack. Its rock and pop songs fit in with MTV's whole purpose and audience. I would never expect anything by Uematsu, Mitsuda, Sakuraba et al, to make anything on MTV's list, because they're too close to classical music, which is decidedly not what MTV is all about.

KWarp...you're kidding, right? What part of "Video Music Awards" don't you get? When they meant "Best Video Game Soundtrack," they meant the best with licensed music, that deservingly going to T.H.U.G.
Edit - Yeah, pretty much what Ybrik said.
And besides, wouldn't it be dumb to hear P. Diddy say, "And da award goes to...Chrono Trigger! Lemmie hear your love y'all!"
No offense, but even I find that stupid.
BTW, Alicia Keys + Stevie Wonder at the VMA's = AWESOME. Jon Stewart was great, too.

Well, it IS MTV after all. You don't need to take any of that with any kind of seriousness, because if you like something that is not mainstream (provided it kicks ass and all), there's not a thing you can do to change the minds of those mindless millions who love something else. I bet a ton of people don't even know what "Rare" is.

Ybrik pretty much took the words right out of mouth.
As far as those MTV d00ds are concerned, they'd just mute their televisions and listen to Linkin Park while playing video-games... :/ Not that there's anything wrong with Linkin Park...or Good Charlotte...or whoever, they're just so mainstream.

Linkin Park IS quite a mainstream band, but that does not instantly make them bad. Kinda makes me think of Evanescence fans. I'm a pretty big fan of theirs, and I was before they ever happened onto the radio (they're from Little Rock, so being from Arkansas I'd heard them before). The INSTANT Evanescence went mainstream and began to get fans from across the country, a fair number of the ORIGINAL fans abandoned them because they'd "gone mainstream".
Isn't that what a band is going for? Is that what we'll do when OUS makes it mainstream? *shakes head* I find it silly, frankly. I like what I like, no matter who else likes it too.

Licensed music eh? Everything made by Square has licensed music.
As I should've said, it's not the best game music, just the most popular music. MTV should just state that so I don't hate them.

Jesus Christ, KWarp! Why don't you just go to MTV's headquarters, and through a glass bottle, with a flaming rag in it, into their window! That'll teach those bastards!! Stop being such a damn baby about it.

You don't like MTV because you never got the chance to watch Celebrity Deathmatch. You poor soul.

I hate celeberties. Actually, I hate obsessive popularity celeberties get. Look at those magazines. They take something that can be summarized into two paragraphs and make it 2 pages (excluding pics which add 3 or 4 more pages). Basically I'm just angry at the way society doesn't balance hard work fairly. I feel better now that I've ranted though. :)

I've sat here for several minutes now trying to figure out what the heck this means.
Perhaps I should just chuckle and move on now?
People cry about bands 'going mainstream' because that means they'll now share something besides the air they breathe with someone they don't like. And this offends their sense of individuality.

I didn't read all the posts, but if Tony Hawk's Underground won best videogame soundtrack, I'm going to have to agree with MTV sucks. Either they have no taste or they have a huge wad of cash in their pockets right now.

The first line means that the task at hand is tremendously easy.
The second line means that my source for that quote is Dogbert from the Scott Adams cartoon Dilbert.

luckily I had just enough 'slack' on Tivo to fast forward that stupidness that they called an award.
almost made the serious awards seem trivial.
Best part of the VMAs:
1. Christy A.
2. Stevie Wonder

Geeks don't watch MTV, but they sure do love to complain about it. God forbid we can't watch the other 27,000 channels on TV nowadays.

Actually, I wasn't really complaining about it. I don't complain about MTV, largely because I don't watch it. I said "MTV is too mainstream" when I should have said "MTV is too mainstream to be interested in the same sort of VGM that we are."
Wasn't a complaint, but rather an explanation of why Tony Hawk Underground won and none of our favorites were even nominated. Sorry if it came off wrong.

it's not anything to do with 'mainstream' or 'underground'. tony hawk games are what the people at mtv are more likely to play, therefore they are more likely to hear the music from them. they vote on what they hear.

You should totally be a TV executive. 27 DIFFERENT VIDEO GAME CHANNELS! EVERYONE WILL BE WATCHING!
Actually, my complaint wasn't directed toward yourself, Ybrik. I was agreeing with your statement. My complaint was directed at others who are pretty much saying, "No one should watch MTV just because I don't like it!" Much like my best friend Mr. Warp.
BTW KWarp, I'm telling you, Celebrity Deathmatch was an awesome show. Clay celebrities + pro wrestling + Mortal Kombat + animated blood and gore = mindless entertainment.
