Now don't get me wrong I think both of these men are brilliant but one must reign supreme!

Gotta say I'd go with Mitsuda (mainly because of the "Another World" theme from chrono cross, damn those violens were nice!), although the opening theme of FF3/6 (the one where biggs, wedge and terra are walking through the snow in Magitek armor) is the song that got me into vg music in the first place.... hard decision. I'm gonna stick a poll on this thing if anyone cares to vote. I'll stop boring ya all now and shut up.

Isn't that "other" option a bit detrimental to the point of the poll?

That aside, I had to say Mitsuda. Uematsu's composed some of my favorite songs of all time, yes, but Mitsuda's quality is consistently higher.

They're both great. I can't choose!

I object. This is unnecessary. Would you pit the White Stripes against the Vines, or The Godfather against Citizen Kain?

Ah, but you would.

God I hate Nerdism.

Jeez, this is hard to decide...
Well let's put it this way, would I rather listen to Searching For Friends for the rest of my life, or Radical Dreamers? I'd go for Mitsuda's stuff.

The old Uematsu, the new Uematsu, or a combination of both? Uematsu's older stuff rocks my world, and I think given the instrumentation capabilities Mitsuda has to play with now, Uematsu would have been positively BRILLIANT. Mitsuda is top-of-the-line now, but I think Uematsu's burned out a bit.

I choose to abstain from the vote.

I dont have a favorite, I like Uematsu, Mitsuda, and Shimomura (the Square "big three") equally, pretty much. Each has their strengths and weaknesses and therefore stands out in their own right.

So I voted other.

See what I mean? The issue is too complex for a simple poll.

Yeah your prolly right Marshall but it's interesting just the same. It's not meant to be anything serious, just something I thought would be interesting, you know, get everyones reasoning behind their likes or dislikes. At any rate it's just a bit of fun to distract me from boring school work. Anywhoo if ya don't wanna take part than just don't bother coming into this specific posting ^_^ .

well, from my limited Mitsuda listening, and my massive Nobuo listening, i still think Mitsuda is better cause of his orchestral directing talents

Yeah, if you really want to debate a simple poll couldn't do it. But if you want to have a bit of not-as-serious fun, this is a great way to pass the time!

(for the 15 seconds it takes to vote in the poll, that is. :) )

I'd have to say Mitsuda... It's a tough call considering FFVI, but if I had to pick one CD to listen to for the rest of my natural life it would without question be disk 2 of the Xenogears soundtrack.... oh god, The Beginning and the End... while its divinity has as much to do with the angelic soloist as Mitsudas composition, it's still the most amazing piece of music ever and it's to his credit... I'd pick him anyway, but by virtue of that song alone he gets my vote.
