Hey, what are everyone's thoughts on the NES-styled GBASP and the direct ports of classic NES games, available for $20? I can't remember what all games are available, but I know the original Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros., Bomberman, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Ice Climbers are all being sold.

I think it's another of Nintendo's cheap money-making schemes, but I don't care. I'll still get the Zelda, and probably the Mario, and maybe even the Bomberman games. I hope it's successful enough to warrant rereleases of a few others, especially if they can get some 3rd parties in on it, like porting Mega Man 2 and the orignal Final Fantasy. I also really wanna see HAL's Adventures of Lolo and some of Capcom's Disney games.

Opinions?

Well..the thing is, Nintendo has to be able to stay in the market right? And $20 for a GBA SP game is a lot more affordable for me then the new ones that are $40 and whatnot.

My NES died. So I can't play any of my 8-bit games anymore. So something like this may be beneficial to me. However yeah, it is Nintendo just trying to make money. But I thought that was the point of a company?

On the subject of MGS...maybe they'll get Konami to port the first two Metal Gear games, even though the second one wasn't NES. Just a little wishful thinking on my part.

I might as well post my wish list for porting NES games to GBA, even though I already said a few of them:

Final Fantasy I, and II and III while we're at it, I guess. At least I and III, cuz I love the first one and have never played the third one
Zelda II: The Adventures of Link
Mega Man 2 and 3...the best of the whole damned series
Dragon Warrior 4...never played it, but I heard it was good.
Castlevania 1, 2 and 3
Metal Gear & Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
Disney's Duck Tales
Disney's Chip 'N Dale's Rescue Rangers

Cheap or not, if they sell the games listed above for gba, then they're giving people what they want. And that makes people happy, and when people are happy, nintendo makes money. So i guess it works out good for everybody. :D

With the exception of having to pay $30 for Metroid Prime and Super Smash Brothers Melee as Player's Choice titles, I've always thought Nintendo to have a good range of prices.

Yeah. Player's Choice titles, or whatever you want to call your bestsellers line, should be no more than $20.

But $20 is an awful lot to pay for some of those titles they're rereleasing on GBA. I mean, Pac-Man? Donkey Kong? I'm sorry, but I have a problem justifying charging $20 for those, when you can buy better versions of both that have a hell of a lot more for less.

If Nintendo can repackage a game(s) that could very well fit inside of a GBA hardware chip and sell it for $20 individually, instead of just making it a part of the hardware that you can access at any time, and people are going to pay for it..?

It's a great company and it's good business. 'Cause like it or not, you know you want it.

80's nostalgia is in. And that's why the OneUp Mushrooms are really going to rock.

How about this:

Buy a Flashcart.

we've got a winner, ladies and gentlemen.

i always think it's funny when people are down on companies for doing things like re-releases. They're running a business. Making money is what they need to do. it's not shoving a knife in your throat.

and yeah, i'll probably get a nes sp.

Yeah, that's the way I see it too. Sure, they're being cheap, but who cares? It really is good business. And I hope it succeeds, so that they do more. Nostalgia = t3h w1n.

I'm kind of disappointed with Nintendo. I was hoping they'd sell these mostly first generation NES games for $9.99. $19.99 is somewhat of a rip off, considering some of those games you can acquire from eCards for $5. Then again, there's no point in buying the eReader for most folks. Scanning 5 cards is a bitch, too. You can also download some of those games from Animal Crossing, too.

The only one that is worth it to me is Zelda. Then again, I can play it on my GameCube with the Zelda Collector's Disc...

I agree with Ybrik Metaknight...this would sound a lot better if Nintendo released some of the more advanced titles from the NES's later years. Or better yet, if they released some sort of compilation, like Atari and Namco.

Then again, Nintendo has made millions more rehashing all the old Super Mario games. Can't blame them for thinking about profit; don't like the idea, don't buy it.

The bottom line is, if you don't want to buy it, you don't have to. But if other people do, they will. And whichever side does more of its doing will determine if Nintendo actually makes money, not Nintendo itself.

I think the new GBA looks cool, but I'm not going to buy it. I already have a working SP so I can't really see spending the money...

Somebody should just produce a sticker you can put over your existing GBA to make it look like the NES controller. I MIGHT buy that.

As for the games: Cool, but too pricey. I'm with Nekobo - the only one I think I would bring myself to buy would be Zelda. But we'll see if they release more of my other favorites. I would buy Castlevania and the Megaman games.

I think this is a better idea than the card reader thing they released before... Didn't seem like that really caught on...

Good thing I never bought an SP, because I know I'm gonna get the NES version.

As far as Nintendo's plan is concerned...hey, business is business. And Nintendo makes good business.

They may be a tad expensive, but quite frankly, Nintendo needs all the support it can get this generation. I'm quite willing to throw $20 at these remakes. Plus, keep in mind that it's really hard to find these titles new anymore; these aren't going to die anytime soon, and they're portable. Besides, if the current games sell well, then that'll encourage them to port other, more advanced NES titles.

Some of the games, like Excite Bike and Donkey Kong don't come close to be being worth $20 Nintendo is asking for. The early generation games are simple and lack the depth to make it worth the cost. Games that are this simple are better off in compilations.

The concept doesn't bother me...just the majority of the games Nintendo plans to release. Seems like Nintendo keeps on rehashing their rehashes, like the the aforementioned eCard versions and the GBA Mario games.

I really do hope the 3rd parties get involved. Wouldn't it be grand to see a Castlevania and Contra complilations on the GBA? They already have those for other consoles (and PC), but it'd be awesome to play it on GBA.

Oooh...hadn't even considered Contra yet. Add that one to my list of NES 3rd-party series that need to be ported.

Ybrik's List
1. Final Fantasy
2. Mega Man
3. Castlevania
4. Metal Gear
5. Contra
6. Capcom's Disney games
7. Dragon Warrior

That's all I got right now.
