Was just wondering how many of y'all liked Legend of Dragoon. And if you all thought I was talking about Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction well....
SHAME ON YOU!!!!
I really liked LoD because of the fighting system. It brought something new to the RPG world.

I wanted to like Legend of Dragoon. Really I did. I wanted something inventive, I wanted something that could bide my time until Chrono Cross came out without forcing me back to my SNES or another PSX RPG, I wanted something new and non-Final Fantasy to sink my brain into.
Unfortunately, I was sorely disappointed. I had on my hands a game that looked like it was several years old, provided me with minimal ways to heal myself (spells mostly sucked and you had something like fucking 32 slots for items, and you couldn't group them? WTF is that?), had an extremely unforgiving, rigid battle system that concentrated waaay too much on physical attacks in the first place, so-so (if nice and ambient) music, really shitty writing and a pretty generic story. I found so much not to like about LoD. I tried, I really did. I got halfway through Disc 2 and found that the only thing about it that I liked was how awesome and lifelike the water in the game looked. Hardly enough to keep me into a game. So I sold it and erased my data.
Sorry for the rant. I know plenty of people that liked Legend of Dragoon. I simply did not, and thought you all should know why.

i totally agree with you on some things, but what i liked was finally it wasn't magic being the kickass element of the game. it was about physical damage which made the game nice. and with only 32 slots with no stacking made you be strategic in how you played. i do admit the storyline did kind of suck, but it was fun to play all the way through.

When a thirteen year old girl can find flaws in the grammar, then you know it's incredibly crappily written. Incredibly easy, incredibly boring, characters that I hated (die, Shana. Just die), boring story, just... bleh.
That being said, I did enjoy what time I gave it.

I accidentally played it in Wal-Mart for like 10 minutes. I was walking through the games section and saw a 3D RPG playing so I was like "score." I either quit or time ran out and I found out it was LoD. I wasn't impressed enough to rent or buy it.

Actually, when I saw LoD, I thought Legend of Dragoon. I've already found out that lots of people on this forum don't care for the game, but I thought Legend of Dragoon was rather awesome.

I thought this was Diablo II's expansion: Lord of Destruction.
Legend of Dragoon however, does not ever need to be played twice. Actually, it doesn't even have to be played once. To static. I hate static characters and gameplay and storyline and...everything. The melee attack timing was all right, but not great.

Tenseiga: as i said in the beginning of this thread: SHAME ON YOU! :P
Neways, it's a good game for it's time. I've definitely played worse RPGs, but this was the first RPG i ever played on the PSX so I feel like it's the coolest. so bleh. :)

The only experience I've had with The Legend of Dragoon is in listening to the main theme, If You Still Believe. Cornball lyrics aside, it's still oddly pretty.

I did not feel for any of the characters at all, they were so porrly developed. And they waited until the last dungeon to solve all of their issues at once. How lame was that? And the "Hit-the-button-at-theright-time" battle system got old...having to use items to cast elemental spells, and not being able to easily heal...those were a pain.
At the very least, the best thing about this game is, that if you just killed every enemy you ran into, you were okay and would not need to go out of your way or spend extra time to level build. The is at least one thing that was going for this game.
The dungeons were reasonable length, not too long, not too short...and the Wingly cities were cool, even if Zenebatos looked like a cheap Star-Wars rip-off. For some reason, the last chapter of the game reminded me significantly of Chrono Cross...do not ask me why, it just DID.
All in all, even what the game did right just was not enough to save it from the bargain bin.
But do not worry, cadjin., I am not knocking your taste in video-games. To each his own...you asked for opinion, and I gave it.

Yeah...it's not exactly the best idea in the world to quote me...people here already disagree with my gaming tastes...pretty much ever since I said I don't like Zelda or Metroid.

Legend of Dragoon is possibly the worst game i've ever bought or played. I even paid an almost full price for it - what a sucker i was. Too bad it might be too late to sell it anymore as it's still dusting somewhere in my drawer. Legend of Dragoon is everything Final Fantasy VII could have been if it had been totally ruined in production. I laughed at that one LoD character dying, while i burst in tears (of laughter) in a similar scene of FFVII. It just rocked more, particularly in that b-movieish sense.
LoD was deviously boring, even though i played it right to the final boss (yes, all 4 horrible cds - the pictures on the cds were kinda pretty though), but i couldn't bear the shame of finishing such a sucker for a game so i stopped there and erased the data from my memory card. The game play had a pretty nice element, if i ever could say anything positive about this game. The tapping-at-the-right-time thingy. In fact the only thing worth exploring in the game was the "combos". And that character Meru (or a name similar to that)... she was funny.. sort of, and her combos were tricky and interesting to perform.
All in all, though some positive tiny details, this game sucked so many body parts at once it was frightening. Even worse than those games of Mana and Zelda series.

Sounded like the Paladin's Quest of the PSX. A mediocre game trying to play on a certain RPG keyword to get people to bite. I think I'll pass on this one. I've all ready got enough catching up on my RPGs to do as it is. I picked up Wild ARMs, Threads of Fate, Thousand Arms, a non-greatest hits of Vagrant Story and Breath of Fire IV dead cheap, and I still have to complete Lunar 2 and Arc the Lad 2 to beat PLUS Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life and all the other new stuff out right now.

Well, that's one opinion...on the other hand I was so pissed off that Lavitz died, being my favorite character and was just as surprised as I was when I got to the point of Aeris dying in Final Fantasy VII and found it really cool that he comes back later on as a spirit.

Man, I have so much RPG catching up to do that I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I probably will never get to half of them. I try to play some of the ones I've never played when I get large blocks of time to devote to gaming.
RPGs I have played quite a bit but not finished:
Earthbound (A travesty, I know)
Final Fantasy X-2
Lufia 2
Breath of Fire I
Breath of Fire III
Wild ARMs 1
Kingdom Hearts
Shadow Hearts
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Harvest Moon: Back to Nature
Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
RPGs I have but have played very little or not at all
Zelda: Wind Waker
Skies of Arcadia: Legends
Grandia II
Final Fantasy IIj
Lufia 1
Breath of Fire II
Breath of Fire IV
Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life
And I'm sure I've forgotten some. I just resign myself to never getting caught up, because I like to replay some old favorites probably far too often. The games that I'm really excited about I typically play the first chance I get, and the others I just play when I feel like a new RPG. Except Earthbound, that one I haven't finished simply due to starting it at bad times when I couldn't finish it. That game is my No. 1 gaming priority this summer.

One thing though: the cinematic cut scenes were absolutely superb. Horrendously dubbed, but the animation was excellent.

Wish I could get my hands on copies of Breath of Fire III & IV...Breath of Fire II was horribly translated, and it sounded like EVERYTHING in the game was ment to be a parody or mockery towards RPGs in general...I mean, how many RPGs with buff sword guys actually end up fighting giant CHICKENS? Oh well.
Haven't played Wild Arms 1 or 2, but I want to get 3...
Threads of Fate...Vagrant Story...the first Lunar...I want to get those SO badly...
...and Einhander and Front Mission 3/Gun Hazard.
So many video-games I want to play...
...back on subject,I wonder if Sony will try to undone its terrible LoD blunder by trying to make a sequel? It WAS a Greatest Hit, so ENOUGH people must have liked it enough to encourage them to make a sequel...I DID hear RUMORS of an LoD 2 on another messageboard...

Although I've never heard of Final Fantasy IIj, I'm going to assume he meant Final Fantasy II. Either way, the description you gave, Azar, should've been saved for someone who said they stopped playing VIII, not II.

Thanks for the advice, but I'll decide for myself whether I want to actually get through the game. I probably will, just for the sake of doing it because it's a Final Fantasy.

If you're going to get any one of those games you listed, get Front Mission 3. It's an absolutely incredible game as long as you don't mind linearity.
